BigBorner Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 I have no clue which Subforum to pick for that but - now here we are. With the advent of the strike eagles mighty AG Radar, upcoming FCR for apache and the fact that many modernish modules do have AG Radar (Jeff, F-16, F-18 whatever) capable of targeting I would love to understand how this is roughly working in DCS. Because it is interesting to me and makes it easier to file proper bug reports or design test scenarios. And because there seems to be something broken / incomplete / weird with it that is hard to pinpoint without any rough knowledge on the logic behind. There are several variables in this it seemed on my tests. It’s dependent on -module used - map used -ground units used. How does this all come together? Is Radar return from objects and terrain like a Texture for FLIR? Is it a value somewhere coded in lua one can check? Is it dependent on how „strong“ the radar beam is? Is grace angle being taken into account besides for creating radar shdows from terrain features or big units like radars and watch towers? Here are the different bug reports / questions I was talking about. For one, the Map factor : And the factor Unit + Module Can someone shed some light on those inner workings and dependencies?
ED Team BIGNEWY Posted December 13, 2023 ED Team Posted December 13, 2023 Hi, we currently have 2 white papers public regarding A2A Radar that you may find interesting? Phase 1 Phase 2 Some third parties use different methods with there own modules. if you think there is a bug always best to make a short as possible track replay example and post in the bugs section best regards bignewy Forum rules - DCS Crashing? BigBorner Posted December 13, 2023 Author Posted December 13, 2023 Hi! Thank you! Those are very interesting, yes. Those Whitepapers are a very good starting point to get to some sort of functional specification that can be turned into code i assume. My Question(s) rather aimed at the stuff you would find in a more technical spec. Whitepaper, for example, says: Zitat Target RCS σ should be a constant reference value to make any comparison/estimation possible. For convenience, detection ranges from [1] were recalculated for RCS of 5 sqm. That is 63 nm * = 54nm and 25 nm * = 24nm Now - where is the RCS of the thing on the ground coming from? There has to be a value to base the calculation of detection on. Is it stored in a lua somewhere? is it maybe part of the livery / skin / texture? vor 6 Stunden schrieb BIGNEWY: if you think there is a bug always best to make a short as possible track replay example and post in the bugs section Yes, im doing that. I want to make those reports more helpful by trying to understand what im actually testing hence this post. and also im curious
