Ive had FRAPS forever, its always turned red when I was recording. Its funny, I was recording a MiG-29 mission earlier with FRAPS and recorded over 40fps. I hate the fact I spent almost 1600 bucks upgrading my system to this, but that was almost totally worth it! You know how long Ive waited for a computer to do exactly this? :D Since LOMAC came out in 2003. The only thing I have to worry about is Win7 and DX11, as well as the next gen games. Its a solid computer for at least 2 years.

Safari Ken, I bought FRAPS something like 4 years ago and it did that even back then. Or at least, the FRAPS FPS counter does.

Yeah, the fps counter changes color, but I never turn that on. Another win for the G15 LCD.

Well, this is going OT but... My spontaneous thought on the tray icon is that you'd have to be in windowed mode to see that, which to me would actally be a problem - the only games I ever play windowed is minesweeper and EVE Online.

Why didn't you use the FPS counter that does inform you if you ran into the problem of not knowing when you were recording?

Because I didn't want the fps number in all of my movies! Does it not show up? If that's the case, I definitely feel a little dopey...

Since my LCD can show me my FPS constantly (even right now, I'm getting between 6 and a cool 10fps while typing this message), I never bothered with the onscreen display.

I can always see the tray icon, because my taskbar is on my second monitor, which I do so I can always see stuff like that (the clock was my main reason, admittedly).

The fps counter is not seen while recording in the end result, its just a statistical counter thats not rendered in with the frames.

Ah, fair enough on seeing the icon on the second monitor. I never bothered with a multimonitor setup - I usually just end up with a desk cluttered with 3-4 separate computers instead, so I didn't even think of the possibility. :)

But yeah, the FPS counter is an overlay that FRAPS does not put into the recording. ;)
