NBee Posted January 10, 2024 Posted January 10, 2024 It seems as the TACAN in the F18C does not automatic pick up the DME (Distance) signal after low-level flight. Starting at 15000’ setting TACAN to Cn 13X, picking up the TACAN signal + DME. Then decent to low-level behind mountains, stay low until TCN signal diapers. Start climb until TCN signal is picked up by the receiver => DME not updating distance to TCN Turning TCN in aircraft OFF then ON brings DME back. 13.trk dcs_13.log CVN73_TX1.miz
rob10 Posted January 10, 2024 Posted January 10, 2024 That's an old and intermittent bug (which fortunately the work around is pretty easy - TCN off/on). Are you consistently seeing it when flying low then back up? Imperfect that you need to do the ON/OFF trick, but because there is that solution and it's not easily reproducible (no consistent set of conditions to make it happen, it's pretty random) I'm not sure it's high on fix list.

This was actually address recently so if you are seeing issues we would want to see a track replay. thanks 56 minutes ago, NBee said: It seems as the TACAN in the F18C does not automatic pick up the DME (Distance) signal after low-level flight. I think I did know that now that you say that. I feel like it happened to me recently, but it's so rare and random that maybe it was a while ago. Will grab a track if I see it again.

But there was a change when there was a fix for the network / server issues recently and the results were good. Forum rules - DCS Crashing? SickSidewinder9 Posted January 10, 2024 Posted January 10, 2024 DME also doesn't seem to do slant range. Not with carriers, anyway. How does the plane know the TACAN station elevation?
NBee Posted January 10, 2024 Author Posted January 10, 2024 Tanks @BIGNEWY Just for info I tried same mission with A10CII + AV8 + Mirage 2000 and was not able to reproduce. But F-5E => same problem no DME on TCN after low-level flight: see attached log and track file. So perhaps it’s not just a F-18C issue? 5.log 5.trk
ED Team BIGNEWY Posted January 11, 2024 ED Team Posted January 11, 2024 Hi, we think we have spotted the issue, sometimes on the first run of DCS after LOS has been lost the range freezes on the F-5. We are going to do a report and ask the team to take a look. Note restarting TCN is a work around. We can not reproduce if we have already used DCS before testing the bug, so something strange seems to be happening but also seems to be terrain specific. thank you Forum rules - DCS Crashing?
