Hi

i try to learn the FA 18  i am a rookie  !

i am wondering where i can find a description of cockpit alarms sounds. And where to find  the messages of alarms detected.
for example when the master caution light is on, where can i find the signification of the alarm.
i know on the upper right console there are messages in yellow. But they are not on.
and there are many alarm tones in the cockpit that i dont understand..

i havent found solution on internet.
thanks for help and nice flights !

Bottom of your left DDI is a default place where all "Caution" and "Advisory" codes will be displayed if needed. If you want to know which malfunction or condition will trigger what, you can search for "A1-FA18AC-NFM-500 NATOPS POCKET CHECKLIST" on the internet. There is a list of all things that can go wrong, how the jet will tell you about them and what you should do to make it to the supper in one piece ;).

If you are talking about "Bitching Betty" recordings, they are associated with specific events or components issues, and in the NATOPS Pocket checklist they are marked by quote marks like "Flight Controls, Flight Controls" or "Bingo, Bingo" etc.

If what you have in mind are all other beeps and didles than they can be system specific. For example, stall warning will have low tone repeatable "Beeps" together with flashing of red light in the landing gear handle, RWR will have single or repeatable beeps depending on what kind of radar it is and if its tracking or actively guiding missiles on you . You can find details on RWR sounds in Chucks Guide for F/A-18C or user manual for Hornet provided with module.

As a rule of a thumb: the louder and faster repeating the sound is, in more trouble you are. 😉

I searched the web for something like warning sounds in FA-18. Came up w/ a website that would play the sounds for you. Had to click a name or description to get the sound playing so kind of backwards but worked out in the end. BTW some sounds volumes can be adjusted on a panel under your left elbow. Scroll to pg19 of Chuck's guide.  The low altitude warning can be adjusted to come on at a lower altitude w/ a small knob on the radar altitude indicator. See page 44.
