its above the wingtip mass limit.

ah, but not the PL-7, which is the same weight and happens to be a clone of the Magic R.550

Worse than PL-5EII however

Yep, PLA rarely use PL-7 even in their drill game. It is more of an export-only weapon for customers who used to use French platforms.

During the initial release of JF-17, in an interview, Deka said that they may upgrade the JF-17 with block 3 stuff as they go. That's why we got the refuelling rod. I hope we can get more features from block 3, not just the HMD.

Let's start with the HMD.

Then, the forward Missile Approach Warning System.

Then, the 2 extra under-air-intake pylons. With those, we can put our ECM and Targeting rods there and save the central fuselage pylon for the fuel tank for a longer range.

Lastly, if possible, let's update the UFCP as well.  🙂

PL-8 would be good enough for me.

Bah, TGP and ECM hardpoints first, way more important than the HMD. Then HMD, then forward facing MWS, you can keep the new UFC. 😃

Without PL-10 usefulness of HMD is in negligible.

I'd rather wait until possible/rumored tech transfer from blk III to blk I/II and get the Chinese HMD which is akin to JHMCS and possible PL-10E to come with it.

Meh, I get more use out of the situational awareness that HMDs provide than I get from pointing heatseekers with them. 😃

Folks get their crotch straps in a twist for a first-gen HMCS on a Phantom, but if we're honest it won't do as much good as people think because you still have to swing that nose around to put the target in the missile flight envelope. The Soviet HMCS on a MiG-29 made such a big splash because it came with a missile that had more seeker FOV and the envelope to make actual use of it. The situational awareness is a whole other matter, I'm not flying F-teens without HMCS any-more because I like to know who's where. HOBS missile or not, the HMCS on a Jeff will be a huge improvement.

Yeah, and the Soviets got their kickstart from the South Africans, who (afaik) were to first to field an operational HMD with offbore capable missiles (probably not very high offbore tho) in their Mirages. 😃

If you use radar and DL properly you can see who is there 🙂 just can't shoot until the nose is around.

Sure HMDS (as Chinese call their helmet) allows you to turn and look but without weapons that can take advantage of it uses are not that great. PAF will likely not implement on BLK I/IIs until fitted with PL-10 and Deka will not add until PAF has done so.

Right now, HMDS is only on JF-17C BLK III and J-10CE.

Here are some images of HMDS on a PAF J-10CE pilot, ignore white lines it is screen capture.

I'm less interested in using it for A2A as I am A2G, being able to designate from the HMD instead of hud or tgp would be great.

Damnit, forgot to list that. Putting the TGP on a target with a helmet is one of my favorite things about HMDs on the planes that have them.

Yeah imagine that in combination with the BRMs.

I know we won't be getting Block III, which is fine. There are mods and such, but as the Hind got NVGs when it isn't night-vision capable cockpit could the JF-17 we have get an optional HMD sight just like how BS3 got Iglas?

Very poor comparison! Mi-24P has been test-flown and indeed operated in limited numbers with NVG-equipment despite the cockpit not having proper lightning (Afghanistan). It was flown with internal lights off in the pilot cockpit. That goes for Mi-8 as well.

Lots and lots of misinformation on the forums. I would know, I'm partly Russian.
