schroedi Posted January 21, 2024 Posted January 21, 2024 (edited) My DCS is crashing since Version 2.9.x. always when starting a mission. DCS stops loading during "World Preload 1/60" in the loading log. When I switch to Version 2.8.8 DCS starts without a problem. My system: Xeon E3-1230 V2 24GB RAM GTX 780 Ti. DCS and Windows are on SSD drives. I already installed the newest GFX drivers, deleted DCS completely, delted DCS in "my Games" folder. enlarged the batch file to 40GB. Nothing helped. I know my hardware is old, but I tried DCS Version 2.9.2 on an even older rig (i5 2500, 24GB GTX 580) and it started without problems. dcs.log-20240120-201334.zip Edited January 21, 2024 by schroedi

schroedi Posted January 21, 2024 Author Posted January 21, 2024 Yes, that's correct their both below specs but why does it run with an older GFX but not with the newer with double the VRAM. I believe the GFX is not the problem.

I believe the GFX is not the problem. You're assuming that they are both running the same drivers and reacting the same way with the drivers. Completely plausible there could be differences that would cause the older one to work and newer, "better" one to fail. Currently some of the highest end newer systems are having problems with DCS whereas slightly older systems are working fine. And possibility that some part of one system is starting to fail is also a valid point. Reality is if it's actually working at all on that hardware take it as a win. DCS is continually evolving and improving and even if they are optimizing things it's only going to have ever higher requirements going down the road due to additions/improvements so take what time you have with those systems as a bonus because their lifespan for running DCS is no doubt running short. 1
silverdevil Posted January 21, 2024 Posted January 21, 2024 good point @rob10. another example of changes happening with DCS. i have a system that was considered top of the line in April 2021. i9-11900KF NVMe 128 GB RAM 32 GB pagefile NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 DCS did something at some point that the newer processors are having troubles with core allocation. p cores and e cores. it seems silly to me that a newer rig would perform worse than mine. but it seems so since i have no performance issues.
