Hi, I have not cleaned out and updated my driver for a while now, I am on 536.23

What is the consensus on updating and is there a driver that is particularly recommended? I fly pretty much all the time in VR, for my specs see signature

Thank you

You'll get different replies and experiences.

Like you, I have an RTX3090.
In my own personal experience, with mine and with other systems with RTX30-series GPUs (RTX3080 10GB, RTX3060Ti 8GB, RTX3060 12GB), and with different CPUs (12700K, 12600KF, 10700K, 11400F, 5600X) the Nvidia's driver 537.58 is still the best, with 536.67 being a close second.

It went downhill right after those, IMO. Lots of tearing in some older games (where there was none) and stuttering occurrences in most (newer or older), and hasn't improved.
I try latest Nvidia drivers every month, using same settings, or default, or even further altered ones, only to get back again to either of those two mentioned versions.

Of course, with an RTX40-series it may be a totaly different story.

If it's running good, and not using some recent game requiring particular bug-fixes of latest drivers, then the old motto "if it ain't broken, don't fix it" applies here, IMO.

Regardless, and no matter what Nvidia GPU model, if you wish to try newest drivers then I highly recommend Nvidia "Clean Version" drivers, instead of official Nvidia ones.
These clean drivers differ in the removal all of the unnecessary bloatware (which causes higher resources consuming) that you get with the official ones.

There's a fella that does them and shares with the HW community, and are usually all up-to-date, with every new official Nvidia drivers release:
https://forums.guru3d.com/threads/rtx-576-15-566-36-exostenza-edition™-de-bloat.452356/

If needed, there is an archive of older Nvidia "Clean Version" drivers HERE (including the mentioned 537.58).

Thanks, I think I will stick with current version then, as I have no issues!

Any change in recommendations following the recent update?

For me with the RTX3090, no.

I've been thrilled to rigorously test every single new driver release from Nvidia, only to realize my previous opinion above remains the same.

resurrecting this thread as I did update to later drivers some months back as I wanted to try DLSS 4 . Do you know if itt possible to still use DLSS 4 on the older drivers? I am considering going back to 537.58 as I have been getting some crashes lately which seem to point to graphics drivers......

Have you tried rolling back to 566.36? seems to be a stable one folk are using. This does not have DLSS4, but you can just replace the nvngx_dlss.dll file in DCS with an updated lib that does. Can use DLSS Swapper pretty easily for this. Still need to update the preset to use though.

I’d say take one of your DCS log files when a crash occurs to the Eagle Dynamic DCS Discord server and drop in the #dcs-log-analyzer channel. And/or attach here.  Might get more feedback re: reason for crashes. You may have some dcs.log.<timestamp>.zip files from previous crashes you can also drop there.

Yep, you can. 🙂
Then just use the latest DLSS DLL (or any other of your preference) and, if desired, maybe use either DLSSTweaks or NVPI to adjust DLSS presets and etc.

Personally (YMMV), I still prefer using the 537.58 drivers ("Clean Version") with my RTX3090, and then do for DLSS DLL, presets and settings (etc) as in the post linked below:
