DHR Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Hello everyone; I am trying to install a downloaded version of the Ka50 and am having trouble. I have read the installation threads here and have had no luck with the offered solutions. What happens is the installer starts fine and about half way through stops with a "Installation aborted" message. I have tried 4 times. 2 times each download. I have re-downloaded the exe files twice, still no luck. About 12 hours worth of downloading time. This solution to redownload, was from Groove "Installation errors? Read this!" This didn't work. As for the files being in the same directory, they are,I think. If that means in the same place on the computer then yes they are both exactly where the downloader puts them. I had moved them to the Desktop for one install attempt. I do not know what a UAC is ( see "installation trouble" by FricFrac) but I am the computer admin and logged in as such. I recently cleaned the registry of all previous attempts and restarted the computer. Still the same result from the installer. The error code is "error 13- Install aborted" I am running on a dual core intel 2.8 processor with windows XP. Thanks DHR

EtherealN Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 UAC is "User Account Control" - a Vista feature. So you using XP is the reason why you don't know what it is. ;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester
DHR Posted April 17, 2009 Author Posted April 17, 2009 Hello again....AHHH Vista! thanks for the responses. I see now why I don't get the UAC thingy as they said. Thats great. As for space on the hard drive. I just tried another drive. I have 2 and the second "E": drive has approx.470 Gb available. According to the installer that is enough space. Still the same result. BUT when I ask to show details for the aborted installer, the message is consistently...."Ship texture BMP failed.." I have a feeling I am not arranging the two files, the exe. and the data.cab files, in the right places..??
EtherealN Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 They just need to be in the exact same folder. Also ensure that the downloader has not renamed any of the files - it does that sometimes when you have multiple downloads. data.cab should be data1.cab. Anyway, Error 13 means the data file is broken. Most likely you have a corrupted file, and if this is due to some connection issues or something this can happen several times. Try downloading with a different browser or different download manager. Also, the md5 sums are up on the download site, get yourself an md5 checksum utility (google it) and verify that your files have the same sum result as the ones listed on the download site. If they do not, they're corrupt and there was either a problem on the server or on your end. If you re-download, do so from a different mirror than the first time to (hopefully) eliminate server errors. 159th_Viper Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 I have a feeling I am not arranging the two files, the exe. and the data.cab files, in the right places..?? No need to arrange them. Just ensure they are present in the same folder and run the .exe. I have my two files in a folder named 'New Folder' on an external mobile hard drive which I connect via USB prior to install and it installs without bother on my main PC. EtherealN Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Strange Bother you're havin' - hope u get it sorted soon enough though. I have actually seen almost exactly this once before (that time the dude was accusing us of demanding him to have a "PhD in computers" when we tried to get him to tell us what kind of computer he had. :P ) and will be trying to find that thread to see if there was something relevant in it.
