This sim is too much fun. I am actually progressing from really <profanity>ty to piss poor at it, but having fun.  I am learning how to control the AI wingmen. 🙂

My newest hardware piece arrive Wednesday, the WinWing PTO 2 panel.

Today I am going to begin to figure out how to use "Voice Attack."

Only problem is today I have to spend some time 1.  at Watkins Glenn (drive the track opening day event) and 2. Doing F(*&)(*& Taxes.

I like your style...

A) you've gotten into dcs and figuring $#!t out.

B) you're buying gear and getting supporting sw / apps.

C) you're a racer.

D) you still haven't done your taxes (so misery loves company).

E) you use bullet points.

Good luck and have fun. Go crush the Glen.

When you're setup with VoiceAttack, make sure to get the VAICOM community plugin. Makes comms so much easier.
Cheers!

looking into Vaicom......

found this....and got a headache. LOL.

  • Backup your current VAICOMPRO folder found in your VoiceAttack/Apps folder.

  • Backup your current VoiceAttack profile by clicking “More Profile Actions” (button right of the edit in VoiceAttack) and exporting your profile to a known location.

  • Delete the VAICOMPRO folder in your VoiceAttack/Apps folder.

  • Launch VoiceAttack and exit VoiceAttack.

  • Unzip the contents of the zip file and move the VAICOMPRO folder into your VoiceAttack/Apps folder or run the msi installer.

  • Launch VoiceAttack and exit VoiceAttack. This generates the necessary file structure within the VAICOMPRO folder. If using the msi installer, drag the AIRIO and CHATTER dll files to the VAICOMPRO/Extensions folder.

  • If you wish to restore your VAICOM settings, copy your backed up Config folder to your new VAICOMPRO folder in VoiceAttack/Apps. Your profile should remain in VoiceAttack as it is stored in the VoiceAttack.dat file. If your profile somehow gets changed, import your backed up profile.

  • Launch VoiceAttack and launch the VAICOM config menu (L CTRL+L ALT+C) and open the “Config” tab. If this does not work, check your VoiceAttack profile and ensure the command “Configuration” exists and is enabled with the proper shortcut.

  • Check Fix Reg and move the sliders to match your DCS World version (i. e. openbeta / standalone).

  • Next to “Use Custom DCS Path” click the SET button and direct it to your DCS World install folder (i. e. Program Files/Eagle Dynamics/DCS World OpenBeta).

  • Open the “Reset” tab and uncheck all of the boxes.

  • Check only the “Lua code” box and click “Master Zero”.

  • Restart VoiceAttack and check the log that comes up, to make sure it finds your DCS 2.8 installation

Voice Attack by itself is super cool and valuable even if only used in the simplest way.... which is what I do currently.  I just started on VR and so now VoiceAttack is basically required.  I just do things like say "Comms" and it hits the \ key for me.  Then I say "F 5", and it presses the corresponding key for Ground Crew, for example.

Obviously, not the same immersion potential as Vaicom, but it's totally fine for me.

I have VAICOM Pro installed and installed the plug in.   I have not tested it all yet. LOL as I wanted to spend time reading the VAICOM instructions PDF and absorbing it.

(As an aside when I tried to boot my windows machine it would not boot, spent an hour trouble shooting it and finally recalled what I did last time. Long story short, the old Windows 10 Hard Drive is permanently unplugged.  Drove me nuts as even my Windows 11 Thumb drive would not let me reboot.....happened before ? 2 months ago, but forgot what the 'fix was' from last time.  Some problem on the Master boot record on the old Windows 10 Drive I suspect. Anyway that should not happen again.)

So, questions....  I am trying to wrap my head around the TX1, TX2, etc commands. I have the WinWing 16 ICP controller so I have the UHS/VHS buttons on it.  And I have been using a Push To Talk for SRS (rudder button on the throttle) to speak on SRS.  The VAICOM instructions talk about mapping a button to TX1, TX2, TX3 etc for UHS, VHS, other radio (F16 has just two), as PTT buttons.  I would rather have the radio selection be done but the physical button on the  ICP and then use the PTT button I currently use with VAICOM as well rather than have TWO different PTT buttons (But can use each of the rudder buttons on the throttle if needed). Am I reading this correctly???  Does the Tx1 mapping 1. select the UHF Radio and 2. act as the PTT button in one step?

Thank you,

Mike

IF! You have enough buttons. Map TX1, 2 and 3 plus TX5 for Intercom/Ground comms. Do not map any PTT buttons in DCS, (might conflict with the radio menu, as VAICOM uses it in the background, and not keystrokes like other VoiceAttack commands). And most MP users, have SRS buttons separated.
So yes. When you want to issue a VAICOM command. Keep the relevant TX down, UHF/VHF, and issue the command.
Plus points for actually wanting to read the manual. It's very good! And, you can get around using only one TX/PTT in VAICOM. That's TX4 (auto).
Cheers!

I have LOTS of buttons, the MDF I use for the EHSI has MANY unused buttons LOL.  And the two other MDF's have unused black buttons between the gray ones. so lots of buttons.  I just was trying to keep the comm PTT buttons on the throttle for more realism.

This will take some trial and error but I wanted to maintain the simulation of "Choosing" the comm with the physical  ICP buttons and then PTT with SRS to talk to humans, and perhaps configure PTT for VAICOM commands for the AI using the other rudder button but set it to TX4.  That might be perfect.  Great suggestion.

I'll reread the manual again.

Thank you so much for your help.

I have VAICOM and VoiceAttack working together, and chose PTT buttons that are reliable.  (The little hat switch on the Throttle is a bit twitchy.)

VoiceAttack recognized my speech but nothing happens in DCS.  I found the trouble shooting  page and need to try again tomorrow and

1. Delete the Export.IUA file in save games and

2. Set Custom Path (because Module Not Shown in PTT page.

I wish I saw this before shutting down my computer for the night. Oh well.

Once I get this working, I can work on combining SRS with it.

Well, good luck! Feel free to ask. AND, whenever DCS updates VoiceAttack/VAICOM needs to be shutdown. And after the DCS update. VA needs to be started before DCS. Or you need to shutdown DCS, and start it again after starting VA. That's why I always recommend Skatezilla's excellent GUI Updater/Launcher Utility. Because then you can easily be reminded of shutting down apps and remove mods when you update manually, and it's easy to start VA before DCS after the update.
Cheers!
