joso Posted April 22, 2024 Posted April 22, 2024 Hello, I currently have a Quest 2 and am considering switching to a Quest 3 or Pico 4. What do you suggest me? Use only via cable. Thank you
Qcumber Posted April 22, 2024 Posted April 22, 2024 The Quest 3 and Pico 4 are broadly similar but the Q3 has the edge in terms of quality and support. However it costs 50% more than the P4. You can use cable connection for both, but Pico link/streaming assistant is not great. Meta link is pretty good but is temperamental. The advantage is that the cable connection can be pushed up to 960 Mbps (although this goes not work well for everyone and some people find that 500 Mbps is optimal). I think the best option for both is Virtual Desktop but this uses WiFi. The P4 supports h264+ at a max of 400 Mbps. The Q3 supports AV1 at 500 Mbps. The other option is steam link which supports cable for both and is up to 350 Mbps. However, I have found that this has more latency than meta link or VD. 1 9800x3d; rtx5080 FE; 64Gb RAM 6000MHz; 2Tb NVME; Quest Pro (previous rift s and Pico 4).

Use only via cable. Thank you Go for Pico 4, but use Virtual Desktop if you can. I would suggest Virtual Desktop also with Quest 3, but I recommend the Pico4 for PCVR/DCS/MSFS2020 and Car sims. Reason - you get same visual quality as the Quest 3. I think actually a little bit better quality on the Pico4 because of the way the panels are angeled on the Quest 3 - the screen door effect is easier to see there. And the Pico4 is much lighter, way more comfortable to use for extended periods of time. Much better weight distribution. The Quest 3 is front heavy, the Pico 4 is not. I get noticebly better Field of View on the Pico 4. I also get a bit more glare in the Quest 3. And the price difference is big, at least in my country. The Pico 4 is way cheaper, half the price. I have the Quest 2, Quest 3 and Pico 4 - and a Reverb G2 (not in use anymore), Pimax 8KX (not in use any more) and Pimax Crystal. Yeah, I know, I probably should sell some of them... But anyway - for use with DCS I would rank them 1. Pimax Crystal, 2. Pico 4. 3. Quest 3. 4. Reverb G2, 5. Pimax 8KX, 6. Quest 2. The 8KX has great FOV, but I never reached the level of clarity in the center of view that I would like to read instrument panels and so on... could be my sample of 8KX that are not very good. Don't know. For DCS my daily driver is now of course the Pimax Crystal, but... the Pico 4 is pretty dang good if set up correctly - and it is more comfortable than the Pimax Crystal too. 1 PC: I9 13900K, Asus ROG Strix GeForce RTX 4090 OC, 32 GB RAM@6000Mhz. Sì, lo so, probabilmente dovrei venderne alcuni... I got the pico 4 used on Amazon for 250 Euros. I will use it purely via cable and only with dcs and fs2020. Edited April 23, 2024 by joso 2

This is not officially supported by VD but it worked very well for me. You still need a router near your pc though. It's a good option if you have a lot of local WiFi interference. But you need to factor in an additional £20 for a powered adaptor. 9800x3d; rtx5080 FE; 64Gb RAM 6000MHz; 2Tb NVME; Quest Pro (previous rift s and Pico 4).
Oceandar Posted April 26, 2024 Posted April 26, 2024 You can use VD and workaround. Don't forget to enable "encrypt local traffic" option in VD setting for PC . It works flawlessly on me. Mastering others is strength. Mastering yourself is true power. - Lao Tze
