If you can and haven’t already, it’s worth visiting their little workshop. They have all sorts of pics and paperwork pertaining to the Blenheim. The Blenheim is usually at one of the flying hangers in Duxford so I've seen it a few times. I've even seen to flying from home a few times but too far for a decent photo, as well as "fxxx where's my camera". Where is the workshop? Slippa Posted June 4, 2024 Posted June 4, 2024 (edited) The Workshop was - at least god knows how many years ago, probably 2015-20ish, in one of those little terraced workshop bits. Sort of beside the BOB hanger and on the ‘bridge’ or ‘back’ side. They’re only little workshops with a few lovely old-school lathes and benches, literally like we had in our teens in school. They have (if it’s still in the same spot) folders like photo albums of WIP projects they’ve got up to along the way. I think ARCo rebuilt it as a Mk1 from a MkIV or something after it was pranged? - I should look it up, bound to be way off. I haven’t read up for a bit and my brain’s a scrambled egg. I’m always happy to be in original buildings too so it was nice to look around in bits I hadn’t seen open before. I stumbled in there after a show one day, had a look around and made a donation. The fella in there helped engineer some of it and was as good as gold and pointed out a few bits to me. I was cracking up looking at pics of ‘Blenheim Cars’ so he pulled out some stuff for me to look at and I asked if he could build me one . Hasn’t happened yet but it’s Birthday time soon so who knows? Where can we get a Blenheim cockpit? I didn’t get to North Weald no. I really should, I’ve been meaning to for years, long before Aeros were there. I’ve spoken to BOB veterans that flew from there and had chuckles with them (or them with me) about me visiting the old spots. It’s had a bit of a boost a few years ago, I’ll have to get over there sometime. I know KP is massively keen on D-Day and who doesn’t love their C-47s? - I have to call em that now. They were always just ‘Daks’ to me but Keith put me straight with a smirk so they’re firmly C-47s or SkyTrains now, or I get a spanking . I’ve been educated. Did you see their Paras jump? I didn’t get there til way later than planned and missed the jump Sunday. Saw them fly in and pick up the lads later on and fly off again, always good to see. Will have to look for a bit of their trip over Normandy. I’ve reached my limit for uploading pictures apparently? Not sure which way I’m meant to be upping pics to the forum but I’ll have to work it out before I can by the looks. - Did you have to crop yours in at all? That long lens you have’s doing well, is that the 300? With a crop maybe? Tidy tidy shots. Edit: Speaking to Mrs Slippa about this and she remembers it as clearly as I do but I realised, this was before ARCo built their new hangar at the far East. Don’t know if they moved everything over there or still use some of the old bits? Edited June 4, 2024 by Slippa ARCo
Lee19822 Posted June 5, 2024 Posted June 5, 2024 Imagine if you would have caught the moment when they land and smoke comes from the tires for that tiny period of time, would look epic from behind, depending on the aircraft of course. These images also look pretty neat, especially the Chrome Red-Bull one 1

As per June 5th and BoB E1. “High winds on the drop zone. No jump tonight”. Great pics by the way. Nice prop blur. I really need to work on my panning technique. What SS did you use? Just got a new lens (TAMRON 150-500mm) that I am still getting used to. 1 PC specs: 9800x3d - rtx5080 FE - 64GB RAM 6000MHz - 2Tb NVME - (for posts before March 2025: 5800x3d - rtx 4070) - VR headsets Quest Pro (Jan 2024-present; Pico 4 March 2023 - March 2024; Rift s June 2020- present). Slippa Posted June 5, 2024 Posted June 5, 2024 (edited) Ooh, you bought a Beast eh? Nice, is it the 'Sport'? A fella I know a bit has one of those, perfectly fine and his isn't the Sport. He's an amazing sniper with his camera too. I'm gonna need a trolley next as I struggle enough with what I carry let alone one of those. You should get some great shots with that lens and wrists to put Popeye to shame . Well suited for Duxford too as a lot of displaying there is a bit further out at times. I change shutter speeds and go from AV to TV depending on what I'm trying to do. Most of what I take gets dumped really. I get shakes as well which doesn't exactly help matters. My eyes aren't as good as they were but I can 'still see that pin down there' . Panning nowadays isn't what it was from me. Bloody shocking seeing the state of some of the weekends efforts. Some are great so it evens out a bit. I was a bit eager to post some here and looking at them properly (and with the right pair of goggles on) I saw some shocking out of focus stuff. Just deleted the dodgy one of the Pony but I've been going through a few earlier and sorted some of the wheat from the chaff. There was a lot of chaff. I should have something better here really. This picture posting is a bit odd though on the forum. Had to delete old pics from posts to replace with these. An old fella in his 80s told me to try 320ss as I was having trouble getting what I was after. I wasn't focusing properly and still have loads either under or over-exposed. For a banker then, I'd start at 320 and have a look. 125, 100, 80? I'll go down to about 60 at times but it depends what the prop's doing as well as your aperture and ISO. If it's fighters on a fast pass you'd want a different ss than if they were on taxi speeds to get a nice prop-blur. Play about with it and remember to enjoy the show too. Years ago I'd film the lot and not get to have a natter and meet other nutters. I do a bit of both now . ETA: What body are you using? Obviously a crop-body will give you extra length . It looks a bit odd on this lens. It a compact lens but quite heavy. I kept it on a monopod at Duxford to save my arms! I took about 3500 photos (a bit trigger happy with 11 fps) and have so far edited down to about 900; just the ones in acceptable focus and no clipped wings. I’m now working to edit for the ones I really want to keep. I tried lower SS of around 1/250th but could not keep a panning focus so gave up and settled for 1/800th which gave me enough plane sharpness with a hint of prop blur. I’m going to practice tracking birds in flight. I had some real problems with autofocus at 500mm but i think this is me getting used to a new lens and out of practice with my camera. 1 PC specs: 9800x3d - rtx5080 FE - 64GB RAM 6000MHz - 2Tb NVME - (for posts before March 2025: 5800x3d - rtx 4070) - VR headsets Quest Pro (Jan 2024-present; Pico 4 March 2023 - March 2024; Rift s June 2020- present). Slippa Posted June 5, 2024 Posted June 5, 2024 Nice. Monopod sounds wise too. try 1/320 and 125 and bugger the birds, get yourself up the field they've got flyables up there . Check camera settings too as that's knackered me a few times. Good luck with the processing, I've still got more than half to go through. 1
