Jarhead0331 Posted May 23, 2024 Posted May 23, 2024 (edited) Very strange issue while in the cockpit. Brightness is very low making it almost impossible to read gauges, dials, etc. However, if I go into the F10 view (ie. the map) and then go back to cockpit, normal brightness is restored. Unfortunately, it is a temporary fix. Timing on when it goes dark seems to vary, F10 always fixes it temporarily. VR gear is a Pimax Crystal. I will test this on my Varjo Aero shortly. For the record, i have also experienced this in the Apache, but not as severe. I tend to not be as distracted by it because it doesn't seem as dark and once fixed, it seems to stay fixed. F-4 always reverts to dark so far. Any ideas? Edited May 24, 2024 by HB_Painter Classification of Bugs and User reports 1
trev5150 Posted May 23, 2024 Posted May 23, 2024 I have seen this as well. Cockpit elements are very dark but can suddenly be washed out and blindingly bright.
Solution HB_Painter Posted May 24, 2024 Solution Posted May 24, 2024 Hey thanks for the report. Please make sure you have the Global Cockpit Illumination activated. If it still is too dark just callback 2
average_pilot Posted May 24, 2024 Posted May 24, 2024 What gamma are you using? 2.2 is the standard value so I assume that's the value the 3D artists use when tuning the lighting etc.
Jarhead0331 Posted May 24, 2024 Author Posted May 24, 2024 (edited) Thanks, HB_Painter. I need to test this a little more, but my initial impressions after turning Global Cockpit Illumination on is that it has improved the problem substantially. I'll give more feedback once I have some time to really explore the new setting. Edited May 24, 2024 by Jarhead0331

If it still is too dark just callback I see the issue here is performance, surely we should be able to see the cockpit clearly without this on. For me same as OP, Pimax Crystal, gamma 1.5-1.6 (any brigher in DCS the sky is too bright and also other parts of the model generally). Its darker than any other cockpit i can think of. Stunning, but dark, agree with OP. Also the red lamps where these not moveable in the real aircraft to direct the angle of the light of the floods - i have no idea but often floods can be rotated and adjusted. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DCS & BMS F4E | F14B | AV-8B | F15E | F18C | F16C | F5E | F86 | A10C | JF17 | Viggen |M2000 | F1 | L-39 | C101 | Mig15 | Mig21 | Mig29 | SU27 | SU33 | F15C | AH64 | MI8 | Mi24 | Huey | KA50 | Gazelle | CH47 | OH58D | P47 | P51 | BF109 | FW190A/D | Spitfire | Mossie | CA | Persian Gulf | Nevada | Normandy | Channel | Syria | South Atlantic | Sinai | Kola | Afgan | Iraq Liquid Cooled ROG 690 13700K @ 5.9Ghz | RTX3090 FTW Ultra | 64GB DDR4 3600 MHz | 2x2TB SSD m2 Samsung 980/990 | Pimax Crystal/Reverb G2 | MFG Crosswinds | Virpil T50/CM3 | Winwing & Cougar MFD's | Buddyfox UFC | Winwing TOP & CP | Jetseat
