Mike_Toth Posted May 25, 2024 Posted May 25, 2024 Hello all, I finally went the VR route and purchased a Meta Quest 3. I have installed Open XR and connected the headset to my PC via a cable and tested the connection.. all good.... I did create a shortcut using the multithread version of the .exe that lives in the bin MT folder with the --force enable commands at the end of the target line... when I use this icon it still presents the program on my monitor vs inside the headset.... am I missing a step somewhere along the line? any help would be greatly appreciated... tks much Mike
diego999 Posted May 25, 2024 Posted May 25, 2024 Is your headset enabled within DCS? I don't think you need the --force commands anymore. At least on my end, when you launch the MT.exe, as long as your Quest 3 is connected to the PC, it will start the game in VR mode.

You get better performance. By "open xr" do you mean open xr toolkit? If so then this is not necessary. It just helps tweak some settings Just set the meta app as the default open xr runtime in settings, run the DCS exe from the MT folder with VR enabled (as per diego999) and it should work. 9800x3d; rtx5080 FE; 64Gb RAM 6000MHz; 2Tb NVME; Quest Pro (previous rift s and Pico 4).

Mike_Toth Posted May 25, 2024 Author Posted May 25, 2024 Tks much Diego, I'll try that when I get home as well... sorry for the dumb questions but I've never used a VR headset so this is brand new to me..... watched some yt videos on all these settings and tweaks but they are 6 months and older so not sure what has been improved. ... I did try with the dcs VR enabled setting on and and removed the force options , retested my cable connection but still no joy...appreciate your help... will let u know
diego999 Posted May 25, 2024 Posted May 25, 2024 Nothing to be sorry about mate. We all learned the hard way when we started our VR journey. This is the option we were talking about. How are you connecting your Quest to the PC? You need to activate Link connection (or Airlink in case you want to play through wifi), not just physically connect the cable bewteen the two. I ask because it happened to me at first when I had no idea what I was doing. You see a new environment once you connect. White and empty like this: Once in there just launch DCS through the regular desktop shortcut in your pc, if everything is right the game should start in VR mode.
Mike_Toth Posted May 25, 2024 Author Posted May 25, 2024 (edited) Ty so much.. I will try those when I get homeclater today. I'm a DCS veteran, but a VR rookie!!. Will let u know how it goes. I greatly appreciate the help...p s. This is my cable Edited May 25, 2024 by Mike_Toth
diego999 Posted May 25, 2024 Posted May 25, 2024 Meta desktop app has a built in test for your cable. Check if it passes.
kablamoman Posted May 25, 2024 Posted May 25, 2024 If you wish to go wireless and you have a newer router (Wi-Fi 6 or 6E) another option might be to forego the Oculus software entirely and use the Virtual Desktop app.
Mike_Toth Posted May 26, 2024 Author Posted May 26, 2024 (edited) I finally got it working ... not sure what I did but uninstalled the Meta PC app and re-installed and re-connected the headset. Now I have to figure out the optimum settings I believe both in DCS and the headset to get smooth rendering... its kinda choppy and am seeing some screen tearing on the edges of the VR field of vision.... been watch several YT vids for settings using the Oculus Tray Tool... Also a question... I set the boundary in the headset to sitting down... when I got in I still see the circle boundary in the cockpit.... is there a way to turn that off? tks much for the help Mike oh yeah these are my system specs.... new Acer gaming laptop Device name Acer-Predator32 Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-14700HX 2.10 GHz Installed RAM 32.0 GB (31.7 GB usable) System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor RTX 4070 8GB Nvidia card Edited May 26, 2024 by Mike_Toth
diego999 Posted May 26, 2024 Posted May 26, 2024 Try these. Your PC is better than mine, so take these as a baseline, you should be able to use much higher settings.

It's similar to a 4060 desktop GPU. It also only has 8gb VRAM. Your CPU however is new and quite powerful. I would advise trying Quad Views Foveated rendering in fixed mode to try and reduce your GPU load. This will enable you to maintain decent centre resolution at the cost of reduced periphery. It works well for some but not for others. I used it in fixed mode on my Pico 4 and was happy with it. It's worth a try. https://github.com/mbucchia/Quad-Views-Foveated 9800x3d; rtx5080 FE; 64Gb RAM 6000MHz; 2Tb NVME; Quest Pro (previous rift s and Pico 4).
Mike_Toth Posted May 27, 2024 Author Posted May 27, 2024 (edited) Thanks guys ill try both the settings and that quad view API.... much appreciated Edited May 27, 2024 by Mike_Toth

Also…what do you compare the resolution to. Unless you take a Varjo Aero or Pimax Crystal or something of the like, VR will not look as sharp as on a flat screen. But the overall experience is still very nice and immersive. vor 12 Stunden schrieb Weed89: felt pushed up too far in the seat In the controls options in DCS, under General (or UI…not sure now) there is a keybind for „VR recenter“.
