Sea Apache

A U.S. Army AH-64A Apache aboard USS Nassau during Joint Shipboard Weapons and Ordnance training
During the 1980s naval versions of the AH-64A for the United States Marine Corps and Navy were examined.[347][348] Multiple concepts were studied with altered landing gear arrangements, improved avionics and weapons.[347] The USMC conducted a two-week evaluation of the Apache in September 1981, including shipboard operation tests. Funding for a naval version was not provided; the USMC continued to use the AH-1.[349]

The Canadian Forces Maritime Command also examined naval Apaches.[350] In 2004, British Army AgustaWestland Apaches were deployed upon the Royal Navy's HMS Ocean, a Landing Platform Helicopter, for suitability testing; there was U.S. interest in the trials.[189] During the 2011 military intervention in Libya, the British Army extensively used Apaches from HMS Ocean.[351] In 2013, US AH-64Ds were tested on several U.S. Navy ships.[352]

Oh I did not know that. Sorry. I have just googled for Navy Apache versions and interesting missions to land on Destroyers and aircraft carriers (I came to DCS because of the awesome carrier and the F-14) and found a few Navy Apache pictures on Google Search with anti-ship missiles loaded on the Hellfire pylons. 🙂

So no USS Sea Shadow accompanying the USS Zumwalt to protect from air, and my Navy Apache waiting on the heliport of the LCS Independence? 😞

None of Independence / Freddom / carry apaches, only medium / light helos (SH-60 and others UAVs), by the pachage instaled. The same situation with the Zumwalt. The Sea Shadow was a experimental ship to test technology (only 1 build), no a combat ship and never was a hangar or offensive weapons, and was scrapped in 2012.

Scrapping the Sea Shadow - the legend - instead of putting her into a museum was pure blasphemy. Now she only lives on these photos...

https://maritime.org/tour/seashadow/stabilizer.php?pano=nr

https://maritime.org/tour/seashadow/generator2.php?pano=nr

https://maritime.org/tour/seashadow/motor.php?pano=hd

And one of the rare photos with the fully functional and also fully switched-on (and not half-way scrapped) bridge:

55c37fc9371d2211008bd70d?width=1000&form

But you are right the Sea Shadow and the Apache don´t really are a good match and have nothing to do with each other. The Sea Shadow would look best next to the only stealth copter the Rah-66 Comanche in a museum.
