Just wondering because on some of the instant action mission it does not seem to work. I now have alot more respect for the guys that flew these old jets, so many things we take for granted now.

haven't tried yet the AAM on the Phantom, but on the Viggen, which can use three variants of the Sidewinder, the oldest (The AIM-9B) has a fixed seeker, that can't be uncaged.

yep, it's exactly like that on the Phantom too. Limitation of the 9B.
