UUMickey Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 Hi, everyone. Long time reader, new player, first post :) First, let me say that I've read many many posts that have helped me to start up and fly the KA-50. I am sure I'd never have been able to do it without everyone's help (even if you didn't know you were helping me). And well, by fly, I mean take off, wobble, fly off uncontrollably and then explode. But hey, at least I can start it up from memory now :) Anyway, I decided I wanted to try to get a multimonitor setup running. I searched the forums and read through the various troubleshooting threads and the wiki page and felt I had a good grasp on what my lua files needed to look like. I have 2 LCDs, a 20inch and a 19inch wide screen. I figured I'd leave the camera in it's place on the 20 inch and move ABRIS and SHKVAL to the right monitor. They are, however, running different resolutions. But I figured I could handle that via lua files. I am running an ATI card with Ultramon handling the dual desktop duties. With the lua files in place and the options file edited... Black Shark doesn't even pretend to use the second monitor. I tested with using the built-in multimonitor options and it tries to put all three screens onto the 20inch screen, ignoring the second monitor entirely. Has anyone else had any experience with Black Shark and Ultramon? My next step is to try disabling it, but I figured at the very least, I should get a munged screen, not one that pretends not to exist. Thoughts? Mick
GregP Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 (edited) You're trying to use Ultramon and multimonitor together? Oooo .... very bad. That's like Ghostbusters crossing the streams. :) Actually I'm not certain it's a problem, but would definitely guess so. Ultramon essentially takes over all multimonitor functions from Windows, right? So I'd assume that means BS cannot interact with the multiple monitors the way it expects to. I'm out of touch with ATI cards - is it not possible to run two monitors at different resolutions and spread your desktop across them? In other words why are you using Ultramon? I'd suggest temporarily disabling Ultramon and giving that a try. Sounds like you've read enough about running multiple monitors to know that BS creates a 'phantom' third monitor no matter what you do. But cypher1312's Phantom Monitor Fix can sort-of make that go away, so that BS is effectively rendering a smaller resolution (2 mons instead of 3) - however, I'm not sure but that may require that what would be your right monitor be the phantom one, i.e. that you put Shkval/ABRIS on left and main on center. Safari Ken Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 It's too bad about that incompatibility, if that turns out to be the case. Multiple monitors without UltraMon is like a hot dog with no mustard!
Made.In.China.00 Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 (edited) Have you tried uninstalling Ultramon? See if DCS works without it. EDIT: Remember the engine we are using is pretty old, so it may not even be able to know the existence of a second monitor, and from what I read on the forum, multimonitor require some LUA scripting and needs span mode in XP, if you're in vista, you'll have to use windowed mode. Search around, there are some really long and detailed descussions on this. Edited May 1, 2009 by Made.In.China.00
