Turd Ferguson Posted June 5, 2024 Posted June 5, 2024 Hi, I've had the counter balance kit installed for a few months but wanted to check something with other users. With it installed if I have the clutches on the base anything other than slightly less than fully tightened there's a lot of wobble in the arm of the base which translatescto quite a lot of movement at the grip.... even more so if using the Apache grip. Has anyone else found this? Is it normal? I think I had the clutches on less before I added the Counter Balance kit. I followed the installation guide and have taken it apart several times since trying to find why but no joy. I've added some pictures showing how i've got it installed. Thanks Oh hell, let's go nuts. sun4eg Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 Yep, I have the same. Not sure if it is "slightly less than fully tightened", but definitely more tightened, than I'd like. Though in comparison to pre CB kit installed it is not tightened at all, I'd say.
Rogue Trooper Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 The only time I had play in the stick was when I had no Friction set at all and this I did whilst balancing the AH-64 Collective, after that I applied friction but I am no where near max. Remember that the friction clamps are actually the bearing for the whole Virpil collective so a little friction has to be applied to ensure there is no play around the main bearing shaft. I think it is also important to screws down (with friction adjust screws) the friction clamps evenly so that they evenly engage top and bottom of the bearing shaft.... I think. . 1 HP G2 Reverb (Needs upgrading), Windows 10 VR settings: IPD is 64.5mm, High image quality, G2 reset to 60Hz refresh rate. set to OpenXR, but Open XR tool kit disabled. I raised a ticket with Virpil and they said they'd never seen this issue, sadly mine was out of warranty but as part of the discussion with them I tried it without the CB and had the same problem. I completely removed this central shaft and reseated it. Once I'd put it back together and reinstalled the CB the movement is pretty much gone. I think I may have unseated it when I put on the CB kit. Oh hell, let's go nuts. Swords for forty eight thousand
Turd Ferguson Posted June 8, 2024 Author Posted June 8, 2024 Thanks for that @Rogue Trooper. I did the opposite with mine started from fully tight and released them. Got to be honest your way makes a lot more sense . Oh hell, let's go nuts. Swords for forty eight thousand
