How to have AI escort

I'm simply wanting a couple jets to escort another jet along it's route and defend it if necessary. I was looking for an "escort" or "defend" task type but only see 'strafing', 'orbit', 'follow', and 'aerobatics'.

How can you get a flight to escort and defend another flight? In additional, how can you change the engage distance? I don't want the escort planes to fly 100 miles away to defend their escortee. Thanks for the help.

You have to set the task of the group to "Escort" and then you have the option to assign the enroute task "escort" to the group.

ah that's what I was missing. I didn't know the different main tasks actually changed what sort of subtasks you are allowed to enable. i'll try this out
