DmitriKozlowsky Posted June 24, 2024 Posted June 24, 2024 How does one see targets through FLIR or TPOD in FLIR mode when rain and fog are present. When rain and fog are , I can't see anything through FLIR or TPOD in FLIR mode. Its just slighly different shade of green. Not much use in landing. In clear weather, at night, FLIR and TPOD FLIR work fine. With rain, clouds, fog, I get little to nothing. Have to bomb blind on waypoint or tgt coords. I am discounting cheating using colored dots for ground units.
SabreDancer Posted June 24, 2024 Posted June 24, 2024 (edited) It's not quite what you may have wanted to hear, but you can't. Rain and clouds block IR, hence merely seeing different shades of green when in the clouds. You can perhaps coordinate with a FAC to bomb targets of opportunity through the clouds, or bomb pre-planned coordinates as you have been doing. Our specific Harrier model is a fair weather attack aircraft, lacking a radar which would enable it to acquire and hit targets through cloud cover or rain. The AV-8B II+ model did carry the APG-65 radar taken from now-upgraded Hornets, in exchange for removing the DMT. Edited June 24, 2024 by SabreDancer 1
