Sure, here you go (it's a track from the entire fight so feel free to end it at the merge):

The first lock was executed too early where the target was still off-screen. The second lock looks valid, but obviously no time left anymore.

Overall, the Vc in this head-on pass is incredibly high (obviously, as he is directly flying at you), in which case the cursor lead is probably also slightly incorrect. Like, at a Vc that high, the cursor would need to be set a millimeter ahead of the target return to improve quality further.

For this particular scenario, it would probably be better to use (regular) BORESIGHT mode (not CAGE/BORESIGHT) and then attempt the lock at 10nm instead of 5nm. Giving you more time to actually react and potentially even have time for a second lock attempt. (BORESIGHT support is coming to Jester soon)

That is brilliant, thank you!

I attempted a lock with CAGE mode (not CAA) as soon as I saw the target-dot through the windscreen (not on the DSCG-display; improved spotting was enabled in that example to facilitate this) since there is indeed not a lot of time to react.
I'm looking forward to more Jester improvements since this module is fantastic! 🥰

Is it currently possible to set boresight to a 10 nm display? Or perhaps I misunderstand what you are suggesting.

Like you mentioned, I often lock clutter at high Vc if I ask Jester to lock at 5 nm or if I try to lock with my own custom bindings since his cursor is not ahead of the fast-closing bandit.

EDIT: I found the mode knob in the manual.. I just have to try it tonight and hopefully Jester doesn't kick me out of it since I like having him track the contact's range while in BST.

Sometimes I prefer to think that Jester is just another guy learning the module with me, and each update is just him figuring out more tricks

This is an excellent way to look at it! 😇

Sorry if this is a daft question, but can the ARR button be used to help deploy the AIM-7?

I am finding it hard to find a specific reference to all of the possible uses/functions of the ARR button in addition to refueling.

Happy landings,

Talisman

I've only ever used it to cage/uncage AIM-9s and AGM-65s. I do not think it has anything to do with using the AIM-7 but I might be wrong.

I understand this as well.

Thanks SgtPappy and diego999, the reason I asked was because I saw a video that appeared to show using the ARR btn with the AIM-7 and when I gave it a go it appeared to work.  But to be truthful I am not sure what really works and what should not work with the AIM-7, even after reading the manual and watching various videos from the community.  In short, I am confused, lol.

The video I mentioned is linked below.  At time 7:50, ACM Boresight mode, the video appears to mention using the ARR btn and I think, but not sure, also uses it with auto acquisition mode, which I think is CAA, but I find the video hard to exactly understand at this point.

Salute and happy landings,

Talisman

He's using Bore and CAA modes, but mistakingly says "when I have a target I will click AAR button", which adds to the confusion.

We're all there mate, just discovering the Phantom, with the added difficulty of not knowing if we fail due to user error or limitations of the old hardware.

It's an unforgiving but amazing plane no doubt.

Thanks for your input diego999.  Yes, Phantom is very enjoyable and taking me to a new level.  :joystick:

For context, CAGE mode can be entered with a button on the right throttle.
CAGE mode is divided into two submodes:
Boresight and CAA.

The two submodes can be toggled by using the NGS/NWS/CAA button on the flight stick.

In simple words, CAGE/BORESIGHT is for locking guys ahead with your pipper, range 5nm.
CAGE/CAA is for locking guys above/below you in a turnfight, when you cant put the pipper on it anymore.
