falcon_120 Posted March 19, 2005 Posted March 19, 2005 Please explain me this because I am a little confused. And one more thing,is it the same thing in real life that what is going to be simulated in FC?
GGTharos Posted March 19, 2005 Posted March 19, 2005 Yes, same thing as in RL. Basically, 'loft' means that the missile will gain altitude - in LOMAC this is done at a 15 degree upward pitch for the AMRAAM, thus causing the missile to fly in a ballistic arc, extending its range. falcon_120 Posted March 19, 2005 Author Posted March 19, 2005 And how much is the range extended compared to that of V1.02?
GGTharos Posted March 19, 2005 Posted March 19, 2005 I'd say 5-10% [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
Guest DeathAngelBR Posted March 20, 2005 Posted March 20, 2005 You're funny, tharos. Not too long ago I tested it manually, shooting the missile 20~30° upwards, and said "if anything, range will increase by 5~10%". You said I was wrong. A little contradicting there, are ya? lololol
Guest ruggbutt Posted March 20, 2005 Posted March 20, 2005 I've gotten kills w/the modded demo at 30+ miles. That's a 50% increase.
Kula66 Posted March 20, 2005 Posted March 20, 2005 Yes I'd say more like 50% for 120 ... certainly when LA is indicated - 30+miles. But from vids of RL, the a/c pitch up to 20 degs, and the 120 climbs to even greater angles ... which is why I think lofting is undermodelled in LO. In LO you 1.1 you certainly get better indicated range ... but if it arrives with low energy it will be easily dodged ... or just go stupid! James
GGTharos Posted March 20, 2005 Posted March 20, 2005 What altitude, ruggbutt? From 40k I've gotten 35nm kills, though now I get 40nm high to high or high to low a little mor realiably. The problem is that due to the missile FM, at low altitudes you're not getting the 50% range increased voer a 'straight runner' that you should be, so in a general sense, the altitudes people shoot from most commonly you'll only see the 5-10% increase. At high alts, the rules change. Kula: Not modelled completely correctly, but I wouldn't say 'under' modelled. Need slightly better missile logics still -and- definitely better missile FM. Guest ruggbutt Posted March 20, 2005 Posted March 20, 2005 What altitude, ruggbutt?....................Need slightly better missile logics still -and- definitely better missile FM. Angels 25 on the altitude. And I agree w/the missile logic. It feels to me like the 120's are much more "stupid" than they were in 1.02.

No, they're more susceptible to chaff (all missiles are now) ... which really isn't particularely terrible. They -are- in fact osmeahat smarter -but- they're not smarter enough ... and more realistic ballistics would really help. If you like I can explain what I mean in PMs. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
