Hi all, I'm fairly proficient in the bomb delivery modes for the F4 but am struggling to drop GBUs onto JTAC, or buddy lased targets.

I normally use Dive Toss, visually ID the target, lock and release. This works well unless the cloud, or air threat prevents me from climbing high enough to give me time to dive again to aquire a ground lock and dropping the GBU.

Is there a better delivery mode for lower level delivery?

Aside from being talked onto a target, are there any techniques to find a lased target quickly?

Thanks!

The issue is that if you drop the bomb from too low, it may not have time/energy to maneuver, as there's a bit of a power-up time for the seeker after it's been dropped.

The jet, at current release at time of this post has no laser spot search/laser spot track capability (and, though I don't know for sure, it may be that even the DMAS version might also not have this capability).

Thanks LorenLuke,

I'm happy with the seekers having enough altitude at drop, I'm just looking to see if there is an alternate delivery mode that doesn't require a notable dive to drop in the right area.

Thanks for info about the laser spot function.

The aircraft has plenty of delivery modes to choose from, they are described in detail in our manual.
You could for example use Laydown or Offset.
Loft of course works as well.
If you happen to have the pod equipped (I guess you don't), you can also use TGT FIND very effectively.

Thanks all, I'll check out Laydown, I'm familiar with DT, Direct and TGT FIND but none of these are particularly great with very short exposure time to the target, it's probably just my flying!

Loft is an excellent delivery method for targets designated by a JTAC.  Pick an IP, put the requisite data into the calculator and tell Jester.  Then at the IP, hold the pickle and follow the flight director and aim for 4G at the pull up when prompted.
