nightflyer23 Posted July 14, 2024 Posted July 14, 2024 (edited) Hi first, I have a small problem with the grease pencil feature in VR. When I open it, the place to draw is not on the side of the cockpit but on a bottle at the front of the cockpit. Nine times out of ten I don't manage to place my mouse courser on it. Unfortunately, it is impossible to use this nice feature in VR. Do you have a tip for me? The other thing is that I can only use the browser to display the kneeboard and the bomb calculator on this area at the front of the cockpit. Isn't there a way to pull this bottle to the side and downwards, for example? For example, you could read the instructions on the right-hand side and act/manipulate at the front in the cockpit. Is it possible to place these things freely in the cockpit in VR? Kind regards Nightflyer Edited July 14, 2024 by nightflyer23 1
Talisman_VR Posted July 14, 2024 Posted July 14, 2024 Thanks for posting. Thought it was just me. I too am unable to get the blasted grease pencil to work despite reading the manual and watching a video. I am using a Pimax VR headset and can't get grease pencil to work. Very frustrating. What am I missing or is there a bug? Any tips would be gratefully received. Happy landings, Talisman

Kind regards Nightflyer I am not sure I follow the issue regarding the pencil. The second thing you mention is unfortunately impossible to change at the moment, it is Aa DCS limitation. We can only render UI at the front area in VR. The same limitation affects the DCS chat window and VOIP controls.

The same limitation affects the DCS chat window and VOIP controls. From pilot position. Left clicking on the right side area window brings up some annoying (immersion breaking) black rectangles and holding left click down the pencil will not work. Trying to get rid of the annoying black rectangles at the top and right side is difficult and very hit and miss. I saw a video of someone saying left click on the 'green area' at the front right, but I have no idea what this 'green area' is? The DCS manual makes it sound so simple but so far I can't get it to work as advertised. Is there some sort of magic I and nightflyer23 are missing? I did get the pencil to operate once, but not sure how and still there were annoying black rectangles appearing that appeared to be trying to provide some sort of menu options but were not helpful or useable. Any helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Happy landings, Talisman Edited July 14, 2024 by Talisman_VR
Zabuzard Posted July 14, 2024 Posted July 14, 2024 Could you provide some screenshots? I really have trouble following what you are describing.
Dedbeat Posted November 20, 2024 Posted November 20, 2024 I too am having issues with this. The problem is the area you ‘write’ in appears in buried in the instrument panel, so you are unable to do anything with it. 1
Zabuzard Posted November 21, 2024 Posted November 21, 2024 (edited) It is really hard for me to understand what you are describing. It sounds like something a quick screenshot could demonstrate much better perhaps? Edited November 21, 2024 by Zabuzard

Can't provide a screen shot of something I can't get to work as nothing to show. Happy landings, Talisman
Zabuzard Posted November 21, 2024 Posted November 21, 2024 What kind of black rectangles are you talking about, could you screenshot that perhaps? When you click the right side of the window where the mouse hint pops up, a window will open on the screen. It might be collapsed and have a clickable arrow to expand it.Once expanded this window can be drawn in, there also is a menu on the top right corner of that window. To hide the window, you would click the spot on the canopy again. Please, elaborate in more detail what issue you are facing, try to document the process with some screenshots or a mini clip. It is probably just a small misunderstanding and easy to fix once we see what you see :)
Dedbeat Posted November 22, 2024 Posted November 22, 2024 Hi, I’ve just tried it again to refresh my memory. When I click on the right side of the window it brings up the collapsed box in front of me. But I cannot click on it to expand it, my mouse just stays as a yellow cross when I hover over it. thanks!

Cheers
Dedbeat Posted November 22, 2024 Posted November 22, 2024 I’m really struggling to get a screen shot, for some reason my pc isn’t playing ball. if it helps, I get a grey bar. My mouse curser won’t let me click on any part of it - it just ‘floats’ through it as if it wasn’t there.

Hit the "Print" or "Prt Sc" (Print Screen) key on your keyboard and then check your saved games/DCS/Screenshot folder. My full path is C:\Users\(name)\saved games\DCS.openbeta\screenshots. Yours might vary a bit but it should be similar.
Dedbeat Posted November 24, 2024 Posted November 24, 2024 (edited) Fantastic, it worked, thank you. So after clicking on the right hand side of the canopy, this grey bar appears in front of me. But I cannot click on it to expand it, the mouse curser stays yellow and just floats through it. Edited November 24, 2024 by Dedbeat To add extra info 1
Zabuzard Posted November 24, 2024 Posted November 24, 2024 What happens if you left mouse click this arrow? It should expand the window and give you a light-greyish window in which you can draw.At least the arrow icon should change to pointing down.If you are using VR or similar, try using your actual mouse instead. It is possible that the window, once you clicked the arrow, was resized to almost zero. The resize handle is on the bottom right corner of the window, a small black-ish symbol. Likely easy to spot for us if you send another screenshot after clicking on the arrow once :)
Dedbeat Posted November 24, 2024 Posted November 24, 2024 I can’t click on it, I’m using vr and I use my real mouse to interact with everything but my mouse curser isn’t registering that the little arrow is a clickable thing.
Dedbeat Posted November 25, 2024 Posted November 25, 2024 I’ll try to give it a go next time I fire the pc up and let you know. Thanks for getting back to me, it’s much appreciated! 1
