SloppyDog Posted July 15, 2024 Posted July 15, 2024 I felt that the P-51 and the P-47 are much more stable, mainly during approach to landings. Of course, the new shock absorver physics do help a lot in landing now. But it seems they were tweaked. I don't know if it was in this last patch or the other, but it seems that both aircraft are much more stable or responsive. Or, I'm getting good at it...LOL. ED usually doesn't insert on the change log all the changes their made in the modules, so many things get past under the radar. Anyone else has noticed the same? 1
wolfstriked Posted July 15, 2024 Posted July 15, 2024 Same here. More fun, less wiggly IMO. I have always felt that making a FM highly realistic while flying on a PC is a detriment to fun. In a plane you feel so much stuff and naturally just adjust. Like I drive tractor trailer for living and the amount of steering movement is crazy compared to the truck simulator game. You are thrown around all day long to the point of my first day I stepped out of truck after 11 hrs and felt like someone hit me with a bat all over my body. You cant do that in a PC game and so truck simulator is super stable and just tracks straight ahead always. Potholes have sent me careening towards walls at 65mph and if your not ready you will slam but as I said the body just reacts cause of the physicality of it. And I posted about getting a slip indicator onscreen as we can feel slip in our butts when flying but now I just use the rudder assistance and it centers the ball fairly well. That said we are entering a new sim era with flight FFB peripherals about to become common for all. Having FFB will give us some feel and the realistic flight models shine that way. great to watch videos of DCS with FFB sticks. 2 "Its easy, place the pipper on target and bombs away." :pilotfly: i7-8700k/GTX 1080ti/VKB-GladiatorPRO/VKB-T-rudder Pedals/Saitek X55 throttle
SloppyDog Posted July 16, 2024 Author Posted July 16, 2024 More fun, less wiggly, indeed. I posted the same on the P-47 forums and a ED beta tester said that they didn't change anything but the shock absorber. But they must have done something to the game, because the Mustang is more stable now. And that's better, like you said, too much realism can be detrimental to fun. Like you said, you are a real life trucker, so has to go through all the joys and troubles of being a truck driver, while in American Truck Simulator we don't have to deal with potholes, bad drivers, traffic and paperwork. It's pure fun in detriment of "realism", which in this case would make for a very uninteresting game. So, I agree, a bit less realism, go a long way making a game/sim better. 1
Art-J Posted July 16, 2024 Posted July 16, 2024 Mind you Yo-Yo is not just a "beta tester", he's lead FM engineer for ED fixed-wing aircraft modules. I'd say he would know if anything was changed as he's the one making changes . It might be in your heads guys. Or the 2.9.6 update reset game flight mode on your PCs maybe? I haven't felt any differences myself to be honest. 3 i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10.

Slippa Posted July 16, 2024 Posted July 16, 2024 I noticed the Mossie being fixed recently more than anything else. Apart from the carnage the update caused I didn’t think they’d messed with the other props. I flew the Spit, Mossie, P-51, P-47 and 109 last night. The 109 was a nightmare on the ground because of its tailwheel. I unlocked and locked the tailwheel a few times but it just didn’t wanna turn. Not sure if it’s something that’s temporary, will have another look later. The suspension change affected the Mossie worst for me. Thankfully, that’s improved but the P-51 is still bad to taxi. The brakes are like they’re either on or off, no real space in between. Flying it felt the same to me, it’s just trying to get lined up to take off or steering it around on the ground that gets silly. I think the Pony’s probably one of the easiest to take off and land? After learning on the Spit it is anyway. Saying that, out of probably 5 or 6 landings in the Spit last night only one of em was respectable. I’m impatient to get in and well, I think I’d better get a bit of practice in.

I have to try it again on the Spit, but never had problems with it before. The Mossie, on the other hand, is terrible on take off. 1
