Talisman_VR Posted July 16, 2024 Posted July 16, 2024 (edited) Hi Folks, I have been looking for a Jester vocab guide for the Phantom but no joy so far. For example, what is the meaning of 'Hawk' and all the other code words he uses? Happy landings, Talisman Edited July 16, 2024 by Talisman_VR
G.J.S Posted July 16, 2024 Posted July 16, 2024 Hawk SAM system? - - - The only real mystery in life is just why kamikaze pilots wore helmets? - - -
Cat107 Posted July 16, 2024 Posted July 16, 2024 (edited) Hi, so sometimes jester is using so called "brevity codes" which are special words (used in real life by NATO) which has some specific meanings associated with them. If you would like to learn them you can just type "brevity codes" into Google and you can easily find the definitions. Another separate thing is that he can call out threats he sees on the RWR. For example by "Hawk" he means the MIM-23 Hawk (which is an american SAM system) as @G.J.Swrote. Edited July 16, 2024 by Cat107 1

Are Jester threat calls linked to the threats listed in the briefing I wonder. Or does he just call them out as a matter of course? Happy landings, Talisman 1
Dragon1-1 Posted July 16, 2024 Posted July 16, 2024 He calls out what he sees on the RWR. So if you've got a lot of Hawks around the airfield, you can ignore it. If you're playing as US or Israel against Iran, which uses the Hawk and its derivatives extensively, ignoring it is ill-advised, although it also depends on context. If you've just taken off and have Hawks on your own side as well, you're probably fine. If you're over Iran and a Hawk pops up, it's probably not going to be friendly. 1 1
BuzzJob Posted July 17, 2024 Posted July 17, 2024 Jester calls out no factor radar paints. Calling out Hawk radar hits behind the a/c out of the flight path of the f-4e gibberish. Is there any way to get Jester to focus on threats in the flight path? 2
Cat107 Posted July 17, 2024 Posted July 17, 2024 (edited) Currently Jester knows what radars both coalitions (blue and red) have at their disposal (in a given mission) and he won't call out radar types that are present only in your coalition (he will call out only those that are only in the enemy coalition or in both). Also on top of that he has some additional exclusion rules like for example he won't call out aircraft from your flight (even if enemy coalition also uses the same type). Right now he doesn't take flight path into account because the assumption is that even if the radar pops up behind you it can be a threat. Edited July 17, 2024 by Cat107 2
nachomaga Posted July 17, 2024 Posted July 17, 2024 You can search in F-14 forum, I remember saw a vocabulary guide there (nails, dirt, SAM, etc), and I suppose is going to be the same. 1

Because if the SAM is behind you, then yeah, it's possibly friendly. Unless you're turning away from an enemy SAM with the same type. I guess the only way would be to just have him ignore all same-side SAM units, maybe as a communications option you can set with the Jester menu. I guess then you get the option to have friendly SAM systems called out in case you're trying to drag enemies into their engagement zones for some cover, or just so you know where your friendlies are if you're lobbing Shrikes around. I've probably had a few SAM sites on my side that are lucky I'm still so terrible at getting those things to hit. They don't have that same luck with me flying the Hornet.
