grumman used the (cat) name on 4 acft for the navy, their are tons of other names with out "cat" in them..

It's actually 5 (F4F, F6F, F7F, F8F and F-14), and there are the bigger felines too (Cougar, Panther, Jaguar). I think we can say they loved felines and water birds (Widgeon, Goose, Mallard, Albatross).
