FC4 Mig15

I’ve upgraded from FC3 but already own all bar the Mig15 but reckoned it was worth it. However, i am unable to get the guns to work! 
the relevant action is mapped to my joystick as well as the default LCtrl + Space but neither do anything. Obviously the cockpit is not clickable so I’m at a loss at how I deploy guns. I might be missing something obvious which at my advanced age wouldn’t be unusual but I am nearly at the point of pulling what little remains of my hair out. Help please.

6 to enter A-A mode, Space to fire guns, LCtrl+Space selects between one or both types of guns.

7 is A-G mode.

Make sure you're in the air and have gun ammo. There might be some other limits like gear up - I don't know this aircraft.
