Hi There,

M9 is simply brutal...

Spoiler

After "Recommend commit" from AWACS, Lead (I know, AI...) is waiting to face up the wall of 4 Su-33s until inside 30 NM. If you face them up before/without Lead, you will (probably, as in previous missions) get yelled at for breaking formation, if you follow lead, you both will start eating up a fat salvo of ARH missiles...

Or am I just too pessimistic?...

After told to attack you don't need to stay in formation. Just staying abeam or bit behind the lead and firing your missiles in time should bring you into a dogfight. Still it's 4vs2 so some luck is also needed.

Not the easiest mission at all

Su-33‘s in DCS don‘t have ARH missiles they use R-27ERs which are SARH. I have played this mission last week: Put some lateral spread between yourself and flight lead to check which of the Su-33‘s are after you. Designate primary and secondary target on the ones that are after you so that you can switch faster when you fire. Then crank away from your flight lead and put the Su-33s at the gimbal limit of your radar. When they launch at you ignore their missiles for now and don‘t panic. At around 15ish miles turn hot and fire your missiles at the Su-33‘s that are after you, then immediately split-s and go for the deck with full burners. There is a high chance the Su-33s go defensive and trash their missiles before they reach you. But even if they don‘t you can burn their energy if you do a few slow left and right turns when you go cold. When you are sure that their missiles are defeated you can turn hot again and fire at the remaining Su-33s. I don‘t recommend to go closer than 5-7 miles because flaring those R-73s is a bit of a gamble.

OK....tried this mission a number of  times.  It was TOUGH for me. Basically 4v1 against the SU-33's...at least until I realised that my wingman was taking his sweet time engaging.  Watched it on Tacview and saw that after I splashed the first 2 but got bounced by #3 and shot down, he finally got around to engaging the other 2...and he is invincible.  Sooooo....next time I played it,when he said spread right, I did a 180, disengaged, and didn't engage at all until he had time to do his thing with unlimited missiles and his invincibility. When I saw he had splashed 2, I re-engaged and ended up splashing the remaining SU-33 (he got the other as I was inbound) and all 4 SU-24's. I figure if my wingman can't be shotdown, he can be first in whenever possible...:)
