First time I saw a picture of this (on an F-16) I wanted it for the F-5E-3! Classic look of a mid- to late 30's USAAC (soon to be USAAF, then USAF) training aircraft.

Can anyone make this for me? I'd appreciate it, just DM me with your desired appreciation.

Thank you!

Ah ha! Behold! After much fiddling and watching Ditch3R's videos on liveries (and many others) and asking a few questions (thank you Ditch3r!), I have done a very basic livery thing! Gotta adjust the colors a bit, and work on the background of the numbers and doo-dads elsewhere....but it works!!

Achievement unlocked!

So even though now that there's a person doing the livery for me, I've found the colors I want. I notice there are a few faint "missing textures" on the wings and on the right side of the fuselage...and I haven't been able to locate the bort numbers to change the white background to transparent. One thing at a time, I suppose.

Edit: Turns out the "missing textures" was because these pics were screenshotted in MV2, which (apparently?) doesn't use the roughmet etc files. Once I started taking pics in-game, the shineyness went away and got more matt.

Came across a model builder site with US Army WW2 colors...for your edification:

F-5E-3 1938 colors

Blue:  186493 ("true blue" in Gimp, bottom pic))
Yellow/orange (gold):  efa400 (insignia yellow, from Gimp)
Red:  972c23  (from online color picker)

I like the pale blue better, maybe a little darker...but WIP.

Figured out why there were a few "missing textures"...in the description.lua, all 4 of the .dds objects (wing, rude, nose, tail, all of which have 4 traits: diffuse, spec, decal, and damage...diffuse has to be marked "false" on all 4 objects to use them) were "true", which means the computer wasn't using the files in the livery folder. Once I marked diffuse as false, the "missing textures" went away.

(Obviously the colored textures were being used, but the "missing textures" were also, until I marked "diffuse" as "false." I don't know why, and I suppose it doesn't matter much because it's working now, as per several YouTube videos)

Yay!

Still have the white background on the numbers (on all 4 locations, twice on the nose and twice on the tail.) Checked the "numbers" .dds in the textures .zip, it has a transparent background...Could someone let me know what's the magic words to get rid of the solid white background?

Thanks!

Learning a little....this time it's the numbers that are under control: I just "borrowed" a description.lua and by a process of trial and error I figured it out! Only took a couple days or so.

Here's my final effort...Good enough for me, any suggestions to make it better?

There is a video on YouTube with the actual "T-38 Heritage paint" scheme. It's filmed from a chase plane, shows all around.
