Missing Runway Numbers

Not sure where to place this but I called to ATC to land, (cant remember airfield) and was told the runway number. I flew over airfield and noticed there was no numbers. I checked a few others Tabqa etc and they were missing.

The major ones had numbers. Why leave them out??

Because they don't have numbers in real either. Why they don't paint them in real, no idea. Probably not worth it to paint it..

This may well be something you know already, but in case you don't, the runway number will be roughly the heading of the runway.  That may not help at major airports that may have more then one runway in a similar direction, but since it's mostly smaller airports usually with only one runway that don't have numbers painted on them you can likely use heading to figure out where you need to go.

I do recall reading about the runway number and heading somewhere on the forum. Thanks for the reminder. Will do some practice runs and see how accurate it is.
