Of course T-Bone !! Thanks !!

I know. It's over a little region.. but I think complete Spain is lot of work (

We also have a complicated terrain). I've readed the related wiki-links and I'm waiting your advances to give me a little 'push' to try...

And I'll boring Trujilo... too !! jjjj

Thanks for your work, sincerely.. with Lomac I allways wanted to fly all over this great world. And maybe flying over Manchuria.. or Spain, or .. it's the same.. je jee.. 'satisfy -a little bit more- my soul'. Of course, I'm ok with the Caucasus, no problem!! (Please ED don't pull my ears!!!... jjjj)

Surely, and I believe Trujilo's using the satellite imagery from El Instituto de Cartografía de Andalucía. His maps are using 8192x8192 BMPs which would take a lot of memory, so he needs to keep his map smaller. The terrain is also limited in the number of objects, so I don't think all of Spain would be realistic to do. You can consider doing maybe central Spain like near Madrid with the El Instituto de Cartografía de Andalucía imagery. It is public domain so you will not be violating any copyrights.

Hello all. That's my first post on this forum.

I am trying to do some terrain but I stuck at 3ds max.

1. Template.max from wiki isn't working [Cannot open the file]. The one linked in this thread works fine.

2. "Export to the .lsa2 file as normal" - I've exported lsa2 by Max Superficial without any parameters. Should I choose some?

3. Collapsing four groups. After collapsing my texture is changed:

before:

beforecollapsing.jpg

after:

aftercollapsinggroups.jpg

is it suppose to happen?

4. Next I suppose to chose Surface/Land in Superficial. Should I export then or it's just for merging with LOD2 Dummies.max?

5. LOD2 Dummies from wiki isn't working [Cannot open file] ... don't know why

Any help would be appreciated.

Here's luckybob's method which works much better than the wiki one:

Use your LOD0 file. Select one of the four that you want. Attach that one to the other 3 to form a big square. go into vertex mode and select all the verts. Next to "weld", there is a little box square, click that, then set the threshold to .001. That should combine all the overlapping verts while not messing with any of the other ones. Next step is to reset the pivot point. Then, apply a uvw modifier to the entire thing. Finally, link it to a LOD2 dummy.

Also, Flymar, when you export lsa2 you gotta choose the semantics as surface + noise and set the material to land. You need the materials.lma file on the wiki.

"Use your LOD0 file" don't know what it means. I used attach with matching material and object and I have one big 40x40 square with proper texture (UVW Map parameter is using only one of the 16 bmp). If linking to LOD2 dummy has to do anything with file LOD2_Dummies that as I wrote earlier isn't working [File Open Failed!] Should I do something before merging? I tried to also select existing helpers but problem is exactly the same.

Maybe you can point me to some other LOD2_Dummies.max?

Thanks for the export tip.

Hey guys. I'm looking for more information on how to get from max to RN and SUP files, so I can "redesign" an airbase in the standard Caucasus map. My enumerable questions are:

1) Why can't I export the Onlay_VPP.sup file? I haven't found any directions for exporting that yet, and it gives me an error: Can't open materials.lma.lua file. I'm trying to just use MaxSuperficial -> Superficial Objects -> Export. I have found no .lma.lua files in the FC2 directory, and no file that will substitute... the Wiki page for "materials.lma eng" just increased my confusion.

2) How do I make sure that in max I'm not putting RN objects in the SUP, and SUP objects in the RN? I understand what sort of objects need to go in the RN, just not exactly which. The template isn't separated into nice groups or anything. There's a group called "SUPERFICIAL OBJECTS," but I see tons of objects that aren't in that group, like the searchlight trucks for example. When I try to select and then export everything in the template I think belongs in an RN file, it just crashes when trying to export.

3) With regard to adding objects to a .scn file, the Wiki says "create a square plane that is sized so it is at the maximum size of the length and width of your 3d object." What will happen if the size is incorrect? Will the object still be placed, just without a good indication of what kind of space it's taking up when editing in the Max file?

4) Why can't I import the default FC2 Medium.scn file with MaxExportScenes -> Import SCN? Max just crashes. At some point, I would like to add more trees to my SCN file... any news on getting AssembleScenes to work? It just tells me it can't "find specified files" when I run it from bin.

5) Is there some kind of index as to which spawn points are used first? Why are they named CrossRoadOnAirfield in the Anapa Max template?

6) If I just wanted to edit spawn positions, can I just... export an RN and drop it in the Vpp folder? Or am I going to need to compile it somehow?

Thanks to anyone who can help with my raggedy laundry list!

Sorry, I have been away and busy.

1) materials.lma.lua can be downloaded from here:

http://en.wiki.eagle.ru/w/images/0/04/FilesHelpLand.rar

2) .rn files are things that you can not see (Splines to designate runway location, splines to designate taxi paths, dummy placeholders for models, splines for taxiway/ runway lights.

.sup file is for things that you can see (runway texture, taxiway texture, taxilines, etc)

Send me a link to the file if you want me to try to split it up. I am quite busy though but will try to help :)

3) Second part is true. As long as the pivot point of the model matches up with the pivot point of the square plane, you will be ok. To be more technical, the pivot point of the model will ALWAYS align to the pivot point of the placeholder plane.

4a) FC2 scenes file was probably created using a newer version of plugins that the public ones cannot import. You will need to import FC1 scene files for reference.

4b) Assemble scenes does not work? Does it specify what files are not found?

5) Not sure

6a) Not sure about spawn locations

6b) You must compile all files into a .scn file using assemblescenes.exe before it will work.

good news.

ED terrain designer Almazi has posted tutorial video (~16 min) about creation of little island, without comments, but main procedures is understandable.

enjoy.

Thanks Luckybob!

Assemblescenes did not specify which files it could not find. Just that it can't find some files it needs. I'm probably using it wrong, I haven't found good information on how to actually use Assemblescenes...

Any solution yet running Autodesk in 64bit OS (Win7) and using EagleDynamics Plugins x32.

As far as I know plugins must be made for either 32 or 64bit, so unless there is some form of backwards compatibility, it will not work.

In a nutshell. Nope

I would try installing both 32 bit and 64 bit. Do you work in 64 bit, but export in 32 bit

Please detailed process for exporting an lsa2 file form 3dsmax.

Can anyone help me with this scenery?

First you need to optimize the mesh. It is far to detailed. Just apply an "optimize" modifier and tweak the values until it looks good, but the least amount of polygons.

Second you need to add the dummy/ helpers. One dummy/ helper per tile. Each tile must be linked to the dummy.

Then its just a matter of selecting all you want and exporting to the .lsa2 format.

How do i connect the dummy to tile?

I am on my other computer so I can't get a screenshot, but here is a video on it. What you want to do is connect the tile to the dummy, not the dummy to the tile.

Hi Sevas,

I´m trying to start working with terrain, so this vid it´s just perfect for me, I´m downloading it right now. Do you mind asking Almazi if it´s ok for me to upload it to a more "non Russian speakers" friendly site, like rapidshare or Megaupload so it will be available to everyone here? I would ask him myself, but I don´t speak a word of Russian unfortunately.

Of course I will upload the same exact file, with no modifications and respecting the originals credits to him! Just on a more convenient server for the guys on this side of the world.

Thanks in advance.

I have asked the question, but I am sure it is ok. I still play to do a voice over at some point...not entirely sure when, but until then, just ask me questions and give me a timestamp as a reference.
