The MMS res. is so bad that it is very often completely useless.
Laser guided rockets seem to have a min. distance of 4500m. At that distance it is hard, and sometimes impossible to spot target between bad image quality and moiré.
I suspect its resolution of 850 could be causing this, as DCS gives options of either 512 or 1024?
Also: Is the night vision supposed to have any IR sensitive properties?
(As it is now, it is just monochrome green, and no different from the B/W.)

Edit: It has since been updated, and is just fine, as long as one does not use DLSS.
Night vision does not appear to have any IR sensitivit though.

I haven't had a lot of problems with the MMS beyond the known box effect that happens when zooming in, where part of the view seems to get cut off at certain angles. Thermals work as well, but it's contextual as not everything has a great heat map currently. Unless you mean NVG, in which case it should be the same old "green tube of sight".

APKWS takes a certain technique to use them, plus using the MFD symbology to aim. Going by the grease mark or the PDU doesn't give accurate enough info to put the weapon in the ball park. For close ranges, you need that crosshair to be dead on with the aimpoint, while for longer ranges you have to give a decent loft and wait a few seconds before lasing.

"The night vision goggles (NVGs) used by OH-58D Kiowa pilots, such as the AN/AVS-6 (Aviator's Night Vision Imaging System or ANVIS), do not have inherent infrared (IR) capability. They amplify available ambient light, such as moonlight or starlight, to create a visible image in low-light conditions."  - ChatGPT (sounds about right I think 😀)

On the MMS, this is at 5km with 4x zoom. Do you mean this?

Are you using export montiors that you're having an issue with?

I ask, because I haven't had any of the issues you've mentioned on my main monitor and as shown above, the picture is pretty clear. I expected the MMS feed to be even worse due it being 80s tech, but as it is right now, I've had no issues with identifying Snow Drift radars at 12+ km away for example.
Are you fiddling with the MMS focus or other buttons on the side that tune the MMS picture? I do this to have a clearer picture. You have to use RMB and LMB when using these, because they're the up and down functions for those buttons. Clicking on the top or bottom of the MMS tune keys doesn't work.

I'm using VR.
But I was not aware of any functional focus. Have to check that out asap.
Thx!

Upon checkin the focus function, I learned that there are two zoom modes.
That helped. ..Fixed the problem so to speak. Yeah. Kinda like getting a whole new module.  :)

Without AI spotting them for you or a function like IHADSS and slave (Apache), I still find it difficult at times to locate targets in the MMS esp in forested or built-up areas, even when I have the cheat labels on 😅  I play around with the gain/level in IR W/H, use the IZLID (shows up in MMS), terrain matching, intel on range, etc. Can't be too high also as the MMS starts picking up the rotor blades and you get that annoying flicker.

I learned that the hardway myself. Luckily I export the displays, that's where I noticed. 😊
