Tr33Top Posted September 30, 2024 Posted September 30, 2024 I am trying to complete mission 3 but the F10 menu isn't displaying when I key the radio. I can't recall the coordinates after closing the window, and I can't complete the refueling. I have tried it with easy comms both on and off, but it never works. Any help as to why I can't see the F10 menu would be much appreciated!
razo+r Posted September 30, 2024 Posted September 30, 2024 Which key are you using? Are you sure you are using the Radio 1 or 2 PTT button?
Tr33Top Posted September 30, 2024 Author Posted September 30, 2024 I am using the Radio 1 PTT. I see other options such as Stennis and Arco, but there just isn't any F10 option.
Tr33Top Posted September 30, 2024 Author Posted September 30, 2024 If it helps, the F10 menu seems to work in the 4YA server, just not sure why it's not working in serpents head.

One for on the ground, one for radio 1 and one for radio 2. If this is not the issue i will check it this end. Tr33Top Posted October 1, 2024 Author Posted October 1, 2024 Unfortunately I won't be able to check for a few days. But fairly confident I'm using the radio 1 PTT. The F10 menu comes up no problem in the 4YA server. Not sure if that one works the same or not. Hope it helps. I'll report back next time I'm able to get on DCS.
Badger633 Posted October 2, 2024 Posted October 2, 2024 Hi @Tr33Top Just flew mission 3 ( not the simple version) and had no problems this end. The F10 functioned correctly. If you are still having trouble could you send me a Track of your mission so I can see why you are not getting the F10 function. Are you on the simple A2A version? ( Make sure, if you leave the tanker early, to abort the refuel as you will not get the radio menu until you do this.) Hope this helps. Tr33Top Posted October 2, 2024 Author Posted October 2, 2024 @Badger633 yeah I'm in simple refuel. Maybe aborting early is what the problem is. I will try that when I get a chance to play again. But I'm not able to recall the coordinates either when I first get sent to the troops in contact. I'm on a work trip, but I'll send the track file next time I'm able to log on. Thanks for getting back to me!
Badger633 Posted October 2, 2024 Posted October 2, 2024 @Tr33Top OK send through the track. don’t think you have to recall coords, they should stay on screen until you press space bar. Tr33Top Posted October 2, 2024 Author Posted October 2, 2024 @Badger633 I'll for sure send the track when I get home. I saw the coords stay up until I hit space. But I thought I was able to recall them with the F10 menu. I using that as a test of the F10 since it's earlier in the mission. I'll send the track in a week or so.
Badger633 Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 Hi @Tr33Top Ok , that may explain things. Originally when the campaign was first made coordinates were displayed for a period and then disappeared. Then there was a facility to recall them using F10 for another couple of minutes. As this put a time pressure on pilots especially in VR, I changed the missions so that the coordinates would remain until you pressed the space bar. So the recall was no longer needed. Unfortunately checking through the brief I did not omit the sentence mentioning a recall facility. Thanks for bringing this to my attention and will update the briefs for next update. So does this then explain your issue? Keep the coords up until you have finished with them then press space bar. Hope this helps. Badger633 Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 @Tr33Top Just flew mission 3 with easy A2A refuel all good. F/A-18C Campaigns : The Serpent’s Head / The Serpent’s Head 2 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- I9 9900K @ 5.0Ghz / Gigabyte 2080ti water force extreme / 32 Gb RAM Corsair Dominator Platinum 3600 / 2Tb Samsung 970 Evoplus NVMe M.2 / Thrustmaster Warthog Hotas / Thrustmaster Pedals / Valve Index.
Tr33Top Posted October 5, 2024 Author Posted October 5, 2024 @Badger633 Oh ok, that definitely could explain it. My main issue was A2A, but I was using the coords recall as a test just to make sure I was using the F10 menu correctly since it was earlier in the mission. It could be that I wasn't triggering the A2A correctly on easy mode and that's why the F10 menu wasn't showing. I'm still traveling for a few more days. But I'll definitely try the A2A again as soon as I can. Thanks for being so responsive 1
Tr33Top Posted October 8, 2024 Author Posted October 8, 2024 @Badger633 I was finally able to give this mission another try and easy A2A still doesn't seem to be working for me. I got close enough to the E2 to get the mission cue that refueling is complete and Ford is ready for other tasking. So I tried pulling up the F10 menu and still no luck. I can talk to ARCO and Overlord, but no F10 menu is displayed. So I tried aborting the refuel with Arco and then pulling up the F10 menu but it still doesn't appear. I double checked and I'm using the "COMM Switch - COMM 1 (call radio menu)" to try to bring up the F10 menu, is this the correct way? I'm sure this is user error, but I just can't think of what else I'm doing wrong. Do I need to switch what frequency COMM 1 is using before calling? Not sure if I mentioned it, and not sure it's related, but I'm on the "Super Carrier Simplified A2A" version of the mission. I also uploaded my track file, hopefully that'll help. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! mission3supercarrierSimpleA2A.trk
Badger633 Posted October 8, 2024 Posted October 8, 2024 Hi @Tr33Top Once you get the refuel complete message Strike tells you to continue your patrol to WP6. You head there and things will happen from there . There is no F10 at this stage. Will check out your track. F/A-18C Campaigns : The Serpent’s Head / The Serpent’s Head 2 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- I9 9900K @ 5.0Ghz / Gigabyte 2080ti water force extreme / 32 Gb RAM Corsair Dominator Platinum 3600 / 2Tb Samsung 970 Evoplus NVMe M.2 / Thrustmaster Warthog Hotas / Thrustmaster Pedals / Valve Index.
Tr33Top Posted October 8, 2024 Author Posted October 8, 2024 Oh ok, cause it didn't appear that I actually took on any fuel. So I thought I had to use F10 to finish the fueling
Badger633 Posted October 8, 2024 Posted October 8, 2024 (edited) Hi @Tr33Top Just checked your track. If you look at the brief it explains the easy refuel. You shouldn't be trying to call apart from the original call. This option is a simulated refuel so you do not need to catch the basket, if you want to catch the basket you use the normal campaign. You will not run out of fuel in this version. You do not need to be using the radio as you approach and you will automatically get the message to move on. Head to WP6. Think you missed some audible messages as you were activating the radio. From brief. NOTE: THIS CAMPAIGN IS THE SIMPLIFIED AIR TO AIR REFUELING VERSION. NO NEED TO CONNECT TO BASKET. ALL THAT IS NECESSARY IS TO CALL REFUELER AS NORMAL AND POSITION BEHIND THE REFUELER AIRCRAFT CORRECTLY FOR MISSION TO PROGRESS. (DO NOT CALL FINAL "PRECONTACT" AS HOSE / BASKET SHOULD NOT EXTEND) .................... ED has changed this now as they always fly with there baskets out now. The amount of radio work is minimal in this campaign but will become more and more as you progress through my campaigns. Tr33Top Posted October 8, 2024 Author Posted October 8, 2024 (edited) @Badger633 I really appreciate you working so hard to help me figure this out. I guess it was just throwing me off that the fuel indicator doesn't increase at all. But the main reason I was getting so worked up about the F10 thing is the audio says I should use it. Right after taking out the ground vehicles there is an audio message from Overlord advising Ford to go re-fuel. In this audio message it says the player should "confirm refueling complete using the F10 function." So I was worried that since I wasn't seeing an F10 menu and since the fuel level didn't change that I didn't do it correctly. I really love your campaigns! You make some great missions. Thanks again for all of your feedback. I really appreciate it. Edited October 8, 2024 by Tr33Top
Badger633 Posted October 9, 2024 Posted October 9, 2024 @Tr33Top Hey that’s no problem, i want everyone to enjoy my campaigns, that’s what it’s all about. Understand the confusion you have pointed out with the audio mentioning the F10. Will have to correct that. The reason it is there makes sense in the normal version. The mission is created for the normal version complete with audio etc. The easy air to air refuel version is an adaptation of the normal version. Mainly to help newer pilots who have not learnt how to catch and maintain the basket and thus prevent them from playing longer missions. The only way currently of achieving this is setting the player on limitless fuel but still forcing him to get in a suitable position as if to refuel. Thats why the fuel does not go down, not ideal but the only option. Your approach looked good and stable suggest you give the normal version a try. Trick is keep calm use small movements never look at or try to follow the basket. Keep in formation with the tanker. Make a slow approach to intercept the basket, if you miss do not try to make quick adjustments to catch it or you will pio. Just ease back slowly and try again. Most of all keep calm small movement. 1 F/A-18C Campaigns : The Serpent’s Head / The Serpent’s Head 2 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- I9 9900K @ 5.0Ghz / Gigabyte 2080ti water force extreme / 32 Gb RAM Corsair Dominator Platinum 3600 / 2Tb Samsung 970 Evoplus NVMe M.2 / Thrustmaster Warthog Hotas / Thrustmaster Pedals / Valve Index.
Tr33Top Posted October 9, 2024 Author Posted October 9, 2024 @Badger633 Ahhhh ok, everything makes complete sense now! I figured it was just user error. Thanks for getting me to understanding it. Yeah in the track I sent you, once I thought the refueling didn't work I figured I might as well practice refueling the real way. I can get close but definitely have trouble capturing the basket, no matter how many time I tell myself to only make small corrections lol. But now I definitely understand the simple A2A version. Now I just need to figure out how to take out the MiGs without getting killed myself.
