Anyone else have an issue with the rear gunner?

Seems the camera centre view isn't set correctly (facing forward not aft), so it's not possible to aim the gun.

Also when set to AI, aft man doesn't want to fire.

I also did not find a way to Control the rear gunner's ROE, there ist no binding for it.

left control 6 is rear gunner ROE... the ROE part works, however he does not fire with the 60 or 240. I tested this in ME with immortal and infantry everywhere, you can see the moment the ROE changes and he tracks a threat, nothing more.

Example here... you can see the moment ROE changes and he starts tracking....

Also the view is fine for me in VR it seems. Hope this helps!

EDIT****** before anyone mentions... I see that I had the guns switched in the text... they sound the same so in the quick edit I misplaced the text 🤣

Thanks for the test and pointing out the binding, didnt find it in the controls menu. Also it would be interesting to know if the ramp is supposed to stay down that low when a rear gunner is selected. I have the feeling that it should be possible to raise the ramp more. File:SWM240Hrampmount1.jpg - Wikimedia Commons

Why has this been marked as user error.

The gunner cam centre point is facing forward, not aft.

He's not really tracking though, he's just moved to the limit in one direction.

So use another word for tracking, I guess acquire...? The moment ROE is changed to fire from safe he responds as other gunners do by acquiring a target or in the threats direction, just never fires, I can get both side gunners to respond the same, only they engage immediately. What am I doing wrong?

I can see this happening in your track but I cannot reproduce this in a fresh mission. Could be something related to a customized camera position but, again, in a fresh mission this isn't occurring at all.

You can find them in the CH-47F Gunner AI Panel sub-menu in the control options. You can open the window using Win+H and change the ROE with LSHIFT+4, 5 or 6.

As for the rear gunner not tracking or engaging, we'll look into this, thanks.

So I found that there was a section in my SnapViews.lua (saved games/DCS/Config/View) relating to the CH-47bl1.

I don't think I've saved any snap views in the Chinook, maybe I pressed a wrong combination of keys at some point and that saved one.
The default view for position 6, items [13] and [14] was set at -176.xxxxx

Anyway, when I deleted the Ch-47Fbl1 section completely, the player aft gunner view is now correct.

The AI gunner still doesn't work, and I still believe that is because "his" default view is set facing forwards.

This can be demonstrated by
1. setting an enemy unit directly behind the chopper,
2. set aft gunner to Fire at will,
3. turn helicopter left and right by 30 degrees or so, see no tracking of target,
4. Continue to turn and notice when chopper nose pointing at target, AI gunner moves to limit of travel.

Copying my post from the other gunner thread.

I tested it today and can't figure out what gives with the rear gunner. I positioned myself with infantry so the gunners can fire. Both right and left gunners depleted their ammo to 0%, rear gunner in that time went to 93%, after minutes of staring at the enemy, it got to 89%. Couldn't figure what gives, angle was fine as I was able to assume control and fire and kill what he refused to shoot at.
