v2tec Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 (edited) Ground textures are looking like 15 years old. It's time to cleanup this pixel salad. We all have more performance on our computers and can handle better / bigger ground textures. Gardens, houses, streets, paths... everything could have more details. This would make flying an helicopter much more enjoyable and realistic. Please increase LOD. Gierasimov Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 (edited) Any specific map in question? When it comes to rendering graphics, ED is pushing what is possible with DX11, they said this however: The main achievement in 2022 is that DCS now works under Vulkan producing the same visuals as under DirectX. This result is fully ‘transparent’ for our graphics programmers, allowing them to write the same code for both platforms without the need to have separate code paths for Vulkan and DirectX11 and beyond. The next step is to provide our graphics programmers with the new Vulkan features compared to DirectX 11. These include new types of shaders (as per Shader Model 6 and further), ray tracing, some advanced rendering techniques, such as GPU driven rendering, and similar. At the present both, DirectX and Vulkan rendering produce exactly the same visuals, which means if Vulkan was released now, nothing would change in the visual aspects of DCS, however it for sure opens up the door to better shadows and lights, this in turn will make current 3D scenes look considerably better. Maps differ, depending which one you are flying low and slow, if you are into free maps, try Guam (free Marianas map) and if paid then go for Syria terrain. Rest of the maps are not that great for slow and low flying to be honest. However, even free Caucasus is much better to what it was 15 years ago. Crank up the graphical settings as well if your PC can, 1080Ti should handle it, your CPU isn't bad either, but for sure not at 4K resolution if you are into good FPS. Don't expect NTTR or Persian Gulf maps to change, not planned for considerable future, even though our community would love that.
