HoneyBadger Posted October 13, 2024 Posted October 13, 2024 Intel announced their new Ultra Core chips which are up for pre-order now but from what I'm seeing they won't seem to have much impact in *most* games but of course DCS is different. I'm currently on a Ryzen 5950X and have been considering upgrading to the Intel i9 14900K but would it better for me to hold out on the Ultra Core 9 instead?
speed-of-heat Posted October 13, 2024 Posted October 13, 2024 from what little information we have i think its safe to say we don't know yet... watch for the videos from Gamers Nexus, as that will give you a feel for improvements overall, but the Intel marketing has them a little *slower* for gaming than the 14900k but at *half* the power draw... 1 SYSTEM SPECS: Hardware AMD 9800X3D, 64Gb RAM, 4090 FE, Virpil T50CM3 Throttle, WinWIng Orion 2 & F-16EX + MFG Crosswinds V2, Varjo Aero SOFTWARE: Microsoft Windows 11, VoiceAttack & VAICOM PRO YOUTUBE CHANNEL: @speed-of-heat

diego999 Posted October 13, 2024 Posted October 13, 2024 (edited) Nobody knows until those chips are released and tested by independent reviewers. Don't buy into the "official" hype from Intel and AMD. Avoid the 14900. Expensive, runs too hot, draws too much power and has a remarkable tendency to kill itself. If you can, wait until next year. AMD is launching new chips and, in a couple of months, we should have the full picture to make the best decision. I'm on the same boat, as my 10400 is showing its age.
