Aapje Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 I think that you have a peculiar definition of popular. There are zero new WMR-headsets getting produced. And in the SteamVR survey, 4% of headsets are WMR. And with only some Windows users being gamers, and only a small percentage of gamers engaging in PCVR, and only 4% of those gamers using WMR, that makes for a very small percentage of Windows users that use it. I fully understand that MS doesn't want to take all the effort to validate that it keeps working, and to do bug fixes if it breaks, for each release. It sucks for Reverb users, but this is the way of the world. When new technology comes around you typically have competing standards. If you buy into a standard that loses out, your hardware is not going to stand the test of time. 'twas the same for Betamax vs VHS. 2

Guess i'm gonna go and get an appontment with a lawyer for european consumers law next week.. If anyone with a little (or a lot ) more knowledge than me, wants to reproduce my steps as far as i got and try their luck, there is a reddit thread about "How Can I Backup Windows Store Apps?". It's 3 years old, and the answering user is now deleted, but the provided link still worked for me. I will not send around my backups, for obvious reasons So it didn't work then?? After the OS install WMR was still there and launched! You just get the "Mixed Reality is not supported on this Version of Windows" Message. However, since my Laptop has no DisplayPort, i am unable to connect my Reverb G2 and check that it still fires up. After i confirmed that the program was still there, i then proceeded to uninstall WMR and re-install it via activated dev-mode and powershell, which, to my surprise, worked as well! So you can indeed still install WMR onto Windows 11 24H2! Had a good run today!^^ Now i'll need to find another willing victim WITH a DisplayPort (or maybe finally get to grips with VM's..) to check for a functioning Headset with that side-loaded install! And if it doesn't work... Well, let's say regedit will not be the same once i'm done with it xDD If i am able to get it my Headset to work under 24H2 with a fresh WMR install, i'll let you guys know how to do it Now... tell me, please, how do I install WMR via powershell
Mobius_11804 Posted November 15, 2024 Posted November 15, 2024 (edited) Google the exact phrase "How Can I Backup Windows Store Apps?" there is a reddit thread from jul 31st 2021. the first response of a now deleted user talks another user through the process. just follow the steps and you should be good to go. But good luck.. I failed miserably.. You can get it installed and it will start, but only to greet you with a "Version is not suppoerted" Screen on 24H2.. Edited November 15, 2024 by Mobius_11804

I probably followed a similar reddit thread after my fresh OS install turned out to be 24H2 base and while I was able to install the WMR app and OpenXR for WMR it would throw incompatible version error when launched. Had to hunt down an older image based on 23H2 and reinstall that. Blocked all windows updates. Will run it till wheels fall off or I upgrade headsets for something like the Pimax. 1 Windows 11 23H2| ASUS X670E-F STRIX | AMD 9800X3D@ 5.6Ghz | G.Skill 64Gb DDR5 6200 28-36-36-38 | RTX 4090 undervolted | MSI MPG A1000G PSU | VKB MCG Ultimate + VKB T-Rudders + WH Throttle | HP Reverb G2 Quest 3 + VD

aceviper Posted December 18, 2024 Posted December 18, 2024 Can you elaborate a bit more on your procedure. This sounds interesting.
Aapje Posted December 18, 2024 Posted December 18, 2024 AFAIK the general rule is that the product should perform well during the lifetime that is reasonable for the product. The difficulty is that the reasonable lifetime is dependent on the product category and the price class. Is it two years, three years, more? In any case, the easy part is that there is no malfunction in the actual headset that can be blamed on abuse by the user, but an end of the software support, so arguing that it will stop being usable (safely) at the end of 2025 is a slam dunk.
