pbrad74 Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 1) IF you are running Vista, make sure your Black Shark install is NOT in "\program files". I have heard this before. Why? What is the reasoning behind this?
Dusty Rhodes Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 It should default to \program filesx86, at least that is where mine went to and so far no problems. pbrad74 Posted May 31, 2009 Author Posted May 31, 2009 Mine defaulted into Program files and I have no problems. Just curious why I see it alot.
Dusty Rhodes Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 (edited) DOH just read your first post again. I don't know why it defaulted there. As long as you aren't having problems, just knock on wood 3 times a day and say seven Hail Flight Sims and you should be fine :D Edited May 31, 2009 by Dusty Rhodes Dusty Rhodes Play HARD, Play FAIR, Play TO WIN Win 7 Professional 64 Bit / Intel i7 4790 Devils Canyon, 4.0 GIG /ASUS Maximus VII Formula Motherboard/ ASUS GTX 1080 8 GB/ 32 Gigs of RAM / Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog / TrackIR 5 / 2 Cougar MFD's / Saitek Combat Pedals/ DSD Button Box FLT-1
kam Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 I think it's to do with Vista's UAC, but most sane people turn that off anyway. Dusty Rhodes Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 What is this UAC you talk about? I just wish I could get rid of it asking me if I am sure I want to do something when I already said I did when I clicked on the icon. That is my main bitch about Vista, and can I log in as administrator and not have to do it individually with some programs? pbrad74 Posted May 31, 2009 Author Posted May 31, 2009 I think it's to do with Vista's UAC, but most sane people turn that off anyway. Is that the only reason? I turned my UAC off. I hated that thing.
EtherealN Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 Dusty, UAC is User Authorization Control. It is basically a function in the OS that ensures that it really was the user that requested an action to be performed whenever an action requires access rights. This function negates some of the old Rights Escalation vulnerabilities, where torjans and other malicious code could piggyback on one program and automatically get administrator priviliges for all actions - and then be able to perform all those actions it wants without the user noticing it. UAC causes all such things to be directly obvious to the user. If you are disabling it, you are technically reducing the security of your system. However, I don't think there's any significant extra risk in that as long as you do have the basic protections active. Vista by design has eliminated most of the escalation vulnerabilities inherent to XP anyhow.
