FLIR on HUD

I have a strange problem.

I've just returned to the harrier and have tried night flying.

I can get the FLIR image up onto the HUD and adjust it to usable levels on the ground.

As soon as i left off the brightness seems to lose 'stability'. IT gets saturated or goes completely dark.

 

Am i doing something wrong?

I don't think you are doing anything wrong.  Flying at high altitude and looking at a featureless sky, or over the ocean, looking down at cold water, there is just not much for the FLIR to show.
