 "Clutter/Grass"  - - - - - - - - - - -  1000  (nice enough detail for that, usually doesn't bog down performance)

Interestingly enough, on a PC of the same class (close to previous gen top tier - see signature), LucShep settings were giving me frequent frame drops. Curiously, my previous settings were not that different but giving me reasonable performance. If anything my settings seemed slightly more demanding (a notch higher textures, forest visibility, shadows), yet fps was nearly locked at 72 fps (native for my headset) in the Apache escorting two Chinooks from Ramat David to Haifa (Syria map). I proceeded to find the culprit and, at least on my system (perhaps it is an AMD thing?) and with the current DCS version, it appears to be the "Clutter/Grass" setting.

Dropping "Clutter/Grass" to zero and adopting LucShep's settings, I could increase the fps on my Pico 4 from 72 to 90. Increasing the textures resolution a notch did not tank the performance either. Go figure.

5800X3D - 64GB DDR4 - Samsung 990 PRO SSD @ PCI 4.0 x 16 - 7900XTX (6950XT for posts before May 2025) - Pico 4 (VDXR)

I'll give it a go. TBH, flying high or low, the grass settings is not something I care much about.

I don't fly helicopters for some three years now (since 2.56 and 2.7), but I don't recall having issues with grass when using the Huey or the Hip, on Caucasus and Persian Gulf.

The fact that the Apache is one of the most demanding modules, and Syria being more demanding than the Caucasus or Persian Gulf, may have to do with it.

Perhaps grass requires a lot more processing now than what I recall back then (recent wind physics thing?). And as helicopters fly very low most of the time, it could explain it.

Either way, I'm advocate of "use what works for you". Thanks for the tip on the grass. 👍
