Lixma 06 Posted November 7, 2024 Posted November 7, 2024 The kneeboard gives the player a running tally of flares/chaff remaining. 1
Raisuli Posted November 7, 2024 Posted November 7, 2024 Well, for me being able to see the kneeboard at all is a cheat; sort of eliminates multiplayer as an option. A lot of aircraft have counters, so I guess it depends on which seat you're in. Even at that if you're in a situation where you need CM knowing the numbers doesn't necessarily help. No point ending up flaming wreckage to 'save' a few chaff for later.
Raffi75 Posted November 7, 2024 Posted November 7, 2024 (edited) Why is this supposed to be a cheat? The crew consists of 2 (3, with the flight engineer) crew members and there is cooperation between them, which we are deprived of in the game. The copilot can provide information about the amount of combat resources at any time, is this also a cheat? Edited November 7, 2024 by Raffi75 1
AeriaGloria Posted November 7, 2024 Posted November 7, 2024 Yeah, I always imagined it as the CPG writing down in notes how many flare were used, then passing it through the hole in the foot well with a cigarette whenever you ask 1 Black Shark Den Squadron Member: We are open to new recruits, click here to check us out or apply to join! https://blacksharkden.com

Fixed - I've sent the Russian Armed forces a note telling them to stop using the intercom to pass info between the cockpits because it's just not fair Cheers.

Unless Petrovich is literally counting exactly how many flares he (and the pilot) has used (which seems un-realistic) then the only reliable information either of them have is from the countermeasures panel. And the only reliable information the countermeasures panel gives is when you've expended 1/3 or 2/3 or ALL of your countermeasures. Let Petrovich relay this information to you; let him warn you when you are down to your last third etc. Here's an idea to add this info to the AI pop-up... Edited November 8, 2024 by Lixma 06 2

Yesterday I spoke with a colleague from my unit and we had exactly the same conclusions. Copilot is able to tell which flare/chaff cartridge it used. Besides, there is no counter for how many flares were fired. However, I do not think that the information in the kneeboard is a fraud. It would be possible to just replace it and the number of charges fired with the number of cartridges used. This is just a game and when playing single player, you had to somehow compensate for the lack of other crew members. See how many things Jester does in the F-14 and how many you can get from Petrovitch. ps. Where do you get the cartridge selection? My countermeasures menu looks different. That was my addition - as a rough solution to the gamey kneeboard counter. I've put the idea in the wish-list section - see if it gains any traction. 1 1
