Autopilot GT toggle keybind

Hey,

did anybody know, why there is no toggle keybind for the ground track autopilot?

I tried to bind the three lower toggle switches on my vipil cm3 throttle. They are spring loaded and thus don't stay in position, so I did bind the vec, acl, alt and hdg with the toggle option. Works like a charm, but for gt there is no toggle keybind. After looking up in the default.lua there is in fact a toggle for gt, but it is commented out. I tried to comment it in and after that there is a toggle keybind in the options, but regardless what you bind on it, it won't do anything. So is there a reason for that? Anybody found a workaround? Thanks

I can't explain why there isn't

But there is a workaround

You can configure "Soft toggle" in Virpil button software, which in VPC tester shows it keeps the switch virtually latched until physically toggled again(*)

 

I set both sides of the real toggle to "Soft Toggle"

and I tried with keybind title "if else, Off" for both HH and HGT

Both work

 

*REMINDER:

I did notice, since the toggle remains active until pushed again, if not 'reset', this can give some confusion trying to switch modes and/or perhaps also after you grabbed the Autopilot  Disconnect Paddle (did not test this though), and the toggles on the VPC vs In Cockpit don't seem to be acting 1:1, like skipping over the "off" position

(easily fixed by making sure the toggle is pushed to reset)

 

 

Side note: 

VPC Software also allows for a virtual middle position in its Mom-Off-Mom toggles, though I doubt this is applicable in this situation, but might be handy for something else you wanna try in the future

Thanks alot for your helpful and detailled answer. I gave this a try and it works. But as you also mentioned, when grabbing the disonnect paddle or using the autopilot disengage switch, the in-cockpit toggles all fall in their off position, while the virpil software don't know this and the soft toggle stays in its on state, leading to a desync behavior between those cockpit and real switches. So you always switch HH and HGT manually in its off state bevor using the paddle or the autopilot off switch?

For now I would use this workaround. But I'm still curious why Heatblur left out the toggle on GT. Is it a bug or was it always this way?

I just have a TWCS throttle but I'm using a 4-way head for the autopilot functionality so my workaround may work for you as well.

I have mapped Heading Hold GT in one direction and the Autopilot Heading Hold Toggle in the opposite one.

To disable Heading Hold GT I hit Autopilot Heading Hold Toggle twice as a workaround.

Please understand I went looking for a solution after wanting to tell you there was a HDGT toggle, which I realized, there wasn't

So I'm not using this workaround myself
