Hello,

I have been flight simming a long time but this is the most intense sim I have ever used!

I am using a Saitek X52 stick with their Throttle. I have changed nothing in the sim. When I start say an "instant action" my throttle works fine.

However, if I start the target practice mission, the throttle unit has no affect. I have to use the +/- keys for the throttle.

What am I doing wrong here?

Thanks,

There are two modes, "game" and "real", and you need to check if keys are assigned for each mode. Also, there are missions configured to play in one or other mode, you can "set options for all missions" in the options menú so all missions play with the same configuration regardless how they have been built.

ED, this has to be one of the top ten most recurring questions and it's all DCS fault, the game/real mode is strange to say the least. You can setup mode inside mission file and/or in game options and on top of that you have an option to force for all missions. The combination is messy.

I assume you are using the game mode as default in all missions up to now.

(You can change this in the option/gameplay menu)

The training tracks are recorded in simulation mode. So you are forced to change your key/axis assignment to your needs.

You Have to do this in the option menu and you can switch between both modes to assign your controller.

Welcome to the forum! (and the search function is your best friend for your first steps)

Don't try to do it at once! - It will drive you mad.

Try only to assign the most used functions to control the Helicopter.

This is Trim button(!),autopilot functions and of course the collective/cyclic/rudder.

Try to assign the rest (most of the weapon functions) after you have understand how they operate from the tutorials/manual.

And it will be much easier to determinate what you really need as a physical button on your HOTAS or you decide to operate it with the mouse.

And I bet you will change your layout often in the learning process!

And YES(!), the menu can be very confusing when you are fresh on the sim.

EDIT: and take a look at this nice KA50 Keychart from Kurtz:
