I started to do some outside screenshots. However, I noticed a lot of jaggies and maybe shimmering on the shadow of wing so went looking for reasons/solution but have not found any yet. I also noticed that the clouds on horizon seemed to have almost what looks like water droplets - that's all I can describe them as. I have attached track.

What I have found is that when I change the time of day just enough to take the deck lights of the carrier out of play the shadows crisp up and are no longer the ugly jaggies. Same goes for the cloud issue.

Is this just a limitation of the sim. Or is it a bug. Or maybe there are some settings that could help overcome the issue.

GPU is RTX4070TI.

hello

the track on my computer does not have any visual artefacts. this likely points to your computer. upload your latest dcs.log which will show your DCS graphics settings. then if possible share you nvidia control panel graphics settings for DCS via screenshot.

Ok I have attached a few files. I did not know how to export a file to detail Nvidia settings so I have done 'snips' of the panel (3 shots). Also included a screen shot that shows jaggies on shadow along with 2 shots of what I described as water droplets. Both from inside the aircraft and also outside.

i do not see any problems in graphics setting inside DCS. below are my settings from nvidia. compare them to your settings. the artefact you are talking about is usually AA. but screenshots do not do your observations justice.

Ok will check those out. I have never done specific settings for DCS in the Control Panel and have just used the default global setting.

I have attached a short video obtained via Nvida app - 1st time I have tried that. It shows the shimmer and jaggies on the wing shadow and at last minute I panned up to the horizon. The water drops are a bit harder to see but are very evident in my monitor. Best seen from middle and to left of shot. You do not get full impact unless you display in full screen.

Ok I looked at settings. Within the Anti-aliasing the only differences are Gamma Correction being "ON' for me and the DSR-Factors and Smothness being 'OFF' for me.

Also Low Latency mode is 'OFF' for me So not a lot of differences.

I don't understand a lot of this stuff.

Are any of those worth changing?

I ended up changing those settings and they made no difference. Even tried the different types of AA and that made no difference either.

the key with the NCP vs DCS graphics setting are if something says application control, you need to either leave DCS as it is or set the appropriate in DCS. it took me a lonf time to get stuff right. that's also why there is a tab for DCS in NCP. those settings only affect DCS.exe.

this is what i have in DCS

{
    ['AA'] = 'DLAA';
    ['forestDetailsFactor'] = 1;
    ['rainDroplets'] = true;
    ['LensEffects'] = 2;
    ['box_mouse_cursor'] = false;

    ['outputGamma'] = 1.9;
    ['aspect'] = 2.3888888888889;
    ['lights'] = 2;
    ['LODmult'] = 1;
    ['MSAA'] = 1;
    ['statsColor'] =
    {
        [1] = 250;
        [2] = 250;
        [3] = 250;
    };
    ['messagesFontScale'] = 2;
    ['canopyReflections'] = 1;
    ['width'] = 3440;
    ['visibRange'] = 'Extreme';
    ['DLSS_PerfQuality'] = 1;
    ['useDeferredShading'] = 1;
    ['clutterMaxDistance'] = 0;
    ['textures'] = 2;
    ['cockpitGI'] = 0;
    ['terrainTextures'] = 'max';
    ['height'] = 1440;
    ['multiMonitorSetup'] = '1camera';
    ['shadows'] = 4;
    ['defaultFOV'] = 78;
    ['shadowTree'] = false;
    ['chimneySmokeDensity'] = 1;
    ['secondaryShadows'] = 0;
    ['SSS'] = 0;
    ['fullScreen'] = true;
    ['preloadRadius'] = 50000;
    ['scaleGui'] = 1;
    ['Scaling'] = 0.66;
    ['DOF'] = 0;
    ['clouds'] = 3;
    ['sceneryDetailsFactor'] = 1;
    ['Upscaling'] = 'OFF';
    ['Sharpening'] = 0;
    ['motionBlur'] = 0;
    ['ColorGradingLUT'] = 0;
    ['SSLR'] = 0;
    ['effects'] = 3;
    ['SSAO'] = 0;
    ['maxFPS'] = 180;

    ['forestDistanceFactor'] = 0.5;
    ['flatTerrainShadows'] = 0;
    ['civTraffic'] = '';
    ['ScreenshotExt'] = 'jpg';
}

with that said, i can see the problems in the screen shots and video you are describing. i haven't noticed it in my case though.

OK thanks. I will look at them more.

I have never run a special DCS setting in Nvida for DCS. Just left Global settings handle things.

Silverdevil, do you mind me asking what GPU you run?

the global settings will be for every game you play. not all are created equal so to speak. dcs is in a special place. i run a nvida 3090.

Yep thanks. I was aware of that but just i've never bothered with running a special tab in Nvidia for DCS.

I have done so now and tied different settings. Also have tried various settings in DCS using the Custom Save buttons to compare. No change has made any difference in any way to what I see - disappointingly.

So I just have accept that it is a case of "it is what is" and get back to flying.

understood. for kicks try different intensity of shadows. and i do not see in this thread that you posted your dcs.log. that may help.

PS just saw a post about super carrier secondary shadows are this way (possibly) because it is cheap to render

['shadows'] = 4;

['secondaryShadows'] = 0;

probably why i do not have the issue.
