hilikusopus Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 (edited) :book:Wouldn't it be nice if we had a sticky thread for user-created resources, like checklists, keyboard shortcuts, training videos, etc.? Well, I started a thread for the checklist I'm working on (basically my first forum post/contribution ever), and I don't know if it's against the rules or what, but during the course of putting it together I began culling other resources from the forum that had some relation to what I was doing. I made a list of them and added their URLs. I've been basically treating the original post in my thread as a mini website, where I update the checklist file attachment as I go, and I add any new resources I've come across. But how about something official? Who can make that happen? I guess that the ideal place would be a web link, where all of the documents could be neatly organized, but maybe a forum administrator could start a thread and maintain it with user-created contributions? I'm afraid I don't know too much about the inner workings of forums. I've read many posts from resource-searching forum members, not to mention the silent forum-guest masses. And, not for nothing, a resource sticky would be so much easier for the more knowledgable, question-answering genius's among us (who know a heck of a lot more about this simulator than I do) to say, "Have you checked out So-And-So's checklist in the Resource Sticky Thread? It has pictures and I think that'd help show you what I mean." -hilikusopus http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=42692&highlight=checklist Edited June 19, 2009 by hilikusopus
Chibawang Posted June 20, 2009 Posted June 20, 2009 Fantastic idea, I say! In fact, you're covering ground which I haven't seen since the announcement of DCS: community run third party resources. Vital to the success of any franchise in the entertainment simulation sector is the dedication of the community to maximize the potential of the software. DCS users are doing that by creating new missions and other modifications, but someone has yet to create a website that collects and pools together this content. User created sites like these can rapidly expand the community as a whole, ensuring a longer life for the simulator even if the developer drops the product altogether. Hopefully, as 3rd party developments tools are released the community will evolve into something more proactive and creative. I'm confident that given the right tools, people will continue to create things that keep our simulator fresh and exciting for many years to come.
AussieFX Posted June 20, 2009 Posted June 20, 2009 I think it's a great idea too. From what I understand the DVD version has training videos. I had to buy the download version as DVD's weren't available at the time, matter of fact I still haven't seen one. I'm trying to work out the datalink but the training mission for that is useless as it never pans up to the datalink control panel, however I understand that there is something on youtube which I haven't yet found. (I don't normally visit youtube) so a sticky incorporating all the resources would be a gem.
Boberro Posted June 20, 2009 Posted June 20, 2009 It would be good to have one sticky place where we can get checklists keycharts ect documents. Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D ಠ_ಠ ツ
ED Team Wags Posted June 20, 2009 ED Team Posted June 20, 2009 http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=661382&postcount=1 It is planned to also allow uploading of non-mission files. It will happen, just a matter of when considering the team is being pulled in a thousand directions right now. Having user-created campaigns and missions will be great. I guess my question is, will the non-mission files be lumped together, or will there be some organization, such as a section purely for checklists and keycharts, etc.? -hilikusopus
