Move On to ANYTHING ELSE but PIMAX.

The question is, to what? I'm still on Windows 10 2H22, because I don't want to brick my G2. A VR headset is an expensive piece of kit either way, and nobody offers the combo of price and features that Pimax does.

I plan to keep using the G2 for now, but at some point, I'll have to update the OS. It doesn't seem that there's anything but Oculus and Pimax doing anything in the low end of the market.

I hear you friend. Definitely keep on with your G2 as long as you can. It's a great VR headset IMO. Sadly, I barely got to use mine because I was away from DCS for so long.
I also agree that there really aren't any suitable alternatives to Pimax in the same price point.
Furthermore, while Pimax Customer Support/Communications really blows and is confusing at best, I have to admit, my Headset actually did show up yesterday as originally promised. I didn't get a couple add-ons (Foam and Alt. Head strap). They are in Courier Limbo somewhere but that's okay. I might not need them. And at least now I have something to attach the Upgrade Earphones to !

I purchased a Pimax Crystal Light on Nov. 17th after being informed that I WOULD have my headset BEFORE Xmas.
...
Here it is, Dec. 23rd and there is no sign of my headset.

I guess I've got my foot in my mouth again. My VR Headset was shipped at the last minute and actually arrived yesterday ... as promised. And while I didn't get a couple add-ons that where supposed to have been shipped days earlier (when I expected everything would all be in one shipment), I'm happy that the headset arrived so that I can enjoy it through the holiday assuming I can get it working well in DCS today.

I still contend that Pimax support blows. I'm sure they'll get their act together someday (if they hope to remain in business) but I definitely could have done with far less stress and confusion. But for now, I have to give credit where it's due and Pimax deserves at least that.

especially now that my HP Reverb G2 is no more than an expensive Paper Weight

I am also pissed, that Microsoft does Microsoft things and stopped supporting WMR after I bought the Reverb G2 on Release... Looking currently into a Pimax Super and I am being put off the subscription and membership stuff as well due to many reasons stated. Currently reading myself into, but sadly there are little alternative options on the market...

But the G2 is not a paper weight. You can still use Windows 11 23h2 for years to come with updates - and after that I wouldn't care personally, since I use the windows machine just for gaming. To not get that stupid update prompts check tutorials like this: https://www.pdq.com/blog/how-to-block-the-windows-11-upgrade/

If you are already on 24h2 you probably will have to reinstall it 🙂 but enough OT

Sadly, I'd be betting the HP will give up before you have to worry about 23H2 not being usable. One thing I noticed with HP is that they have failure points (cables in particular), and if the G1 is anything to go by - they make it difficult, or simply don't make replacement cables available. My experience is that their after-warranty support is very limited (far worse than what I experienced with Pimax's support).

That's not to say that Pimax doesn't have issues, but to give credit where credit is due, and I think they've done well with having the cables detachable and user-replaceable. (Along with the lenses as well).

As for the windows update, I'm 100% with you, however I use the method to enter/alter the FlightSettingsMaxPauseDays setting in the registry - giving me decades to 'pause' my updates.

https://www.elevenforum.com/t/change-maximum-days-to-pause-windows-update-in-windows-11.9202/

This gives the benefit of being able to un-pause if/when I decide to do the updates myself, and then re-pause immediately afterwards again. (Bringing back similar functionality to the good-ol XP days where we had control on when we wanted to do the updates - not Microsoft forcing them on us).

Pointless because the update requires a whole new install, it's not a simple applied over the top band aid patch, and it's not going to update automatically without asking first.  They'd be class action sued for all the data loss.

You'll be presented with a clean install option with the drive being swiped completely clean, or a newly installed upgraded op system while saving all your old programs and files stuff as back up, and you should know how that usually goes, not good.

At a certain date they'll probably begin to hen peck you to death to do it, but doubt it will automatically install, we'd have already heard complaints and stories of it happening.  Your panicking and reacting to a big nothing burger.
