I can't seem to play any missions with out this occuring.

You've got problems with either DirectX, your installation or your video drivers.

Try:

1.Running dxdiag and see if any problems arise

2.Updating your drivers

3.If that doesn't help - reinstalling the game.

the game doesn't like DX 10.1 cards...

I have to reboot the machine and make sure after playing a DX 10.1 game ROM is cleared out of the card any residual effects causes the CTD..

Also the game isn't blameless either it has its issues with DX regular..
