You can turn them on and off with key commands, I believe it’s Shift+F10. That might just cycle them instead of On/Off.

Yeah, but OP has one my oldest wishes. OFF at mission start. If you have them OFF now, you can never turn them ON, unless they changed something and skipped the info in the changelog.
