1. In the Jester menu, when I first enter the CMS/RWR menu it says "Set Jammer XMIT".

2. Does this mean the Jammer is currently transmitting or is it actually on "STBY" until I click on "XMIT and it displays "STBY".

(I'm not clear if the action shown in the menu is being performed or waiting to be commanded)

3. Does the Jammer currently work?

Thank you for any clarification.

It's been a while since I have used Jester, It should be that the option is what it is going to be set to. So Set Jammer XMIT sets the knob in the back to RPT. If it helps figure it out the default position of that knob in a hot start is STBY.

And yes it does function to the limited capacity that the rest of the ECM systems in the game do.

1,2.The jester menu states 'SET JAMMER XXX'. It's SET, directive call.

So the current state of jammer will be inverse of  XXX.
'SET JAMMER XMIT' means jammer is STBY
'SET JAMMER STBY' means jammer is XMIT

3.Jammer works. HB F-14 jammer is blinking jammer unlike other F-16, F-15C noise jammers.

i know the jammer works in game since when I fight against AI F14s (I know, sacrilege), they will jam my radar. I have also tried using the jammer in BVR matchups with Mig29/Su27s eqipped with R27ER/R77, but I don’t seem to get better results and suspect the Russian missiles are homing on my jammer, although I have not tested it at depth. I usually leave it off.

I would also be interested in getting more info on this.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the R27 and R77 have home on jam capability.  For fighting planes with R27, I usually turn the jammer off when I am within around 20 miles of them.  Older missiles carried by the MiG-23 and MiG-25 do not have HOJ, I think.

Also, if you are fighting F-4's, Sparrows have HOJ as well.

R-27 has Home on jam so you should disable jammer when you get closer than 29 nm (burnthrough range) as jammer turns Fox 1 R27 into stealthy (no RWR indication) Fox3

However at distances more than 29nm jammer is very useful, especially vs soviet jets as they prevent locks, effectively making you invulnerable for shots at distances longer than 29nm. Did I mentioned that F-14 so far has longest stick in game? Also you can jam AND employ AA missiles (unlike F16/F18)? 🙂 So jammer in F14 is actually very effective if used right. Just remember to switch it off. Also its great vs older sams, as long you are outside burn through range
