Robobble Posted January 6 Posted January 6 I just took a stab at the first mission and after the whole flight across the channel with the power being between max cont. and military, at times needing WEP to even barely rope the leader in, my engine quit. Hell, I don't blame it. I definitely exceeded the rated duration for mil power and was close if not over on WEP as well. And I doubt the ratings are separate from each other anyways . I was trimmed properly as far as I know, obsessing over that damn ball trying to get a few extra mph. I even checked third person to make sure my gear wasn't down at one point. Lots of campaigns I've played are like this, but never this bad, and since it seems like nobody else is having a problem then I must be doing something wrong? Anyone got tips?
Reflected Posted January 6 Posted January 6 Wait: Climb or level flight? AI climb is hard coded. You need 61" and 3000 RPM there. Level flight - they never go faster than max continuous, usually quite a bit lower. You see, even if they go at max continuous, and you're lagging behind, it takes time for you to catch up even at mil power. we're talking about differences of 5-10 mph. Only judge the AI's power settings once you fly close formation on them. Your engine shouldn't quit btw, unless you're climbing too steeply and slow and you're overheating the engine. Or you forgot to switch the fuel pump on, or you put the mixture into emergency instead of auto. Facebook Instagram YouTube Discord

So the first try I spent a lot of time sitting there reading the briefing and getting the plane set up and whatever. I saw the press space when ready and I guess I expected the war to wait for me. Nope, we were going to be late for the invasion. I guess flight lead was trying to catch up. We didn't see another aircraft until we crossed the channel. Second try though, I was ready and just started up and took off. We almost immediately formed up with the rest of the squadron and am currently cruising across the channel with everything in the green. As far as the engine dying, we were above 300mph even climbing. I didn't take hits and the report at the end said engine failure. I admittedly wasn't monitoring temps so not sure there. Problem solved regardless. Thanks for responding, the polish on this campaign so far is really nice! Looking forward to it.
Solution Reflected Posted January 6 Solution Posted January 6 (edited) Good to hear! Teah when the AI is trying to catch up it goes all out. the group will respect the briefed timings for setting course whether you’re ready or not. make sure your coolers are set to auto Edited January 6 by Reflected Facebook Instagram YouTube Discord
